Anyone can edit the Wiki. Unfortunately, not all the entries are totally correct. Mostly when people have added stuff from memory.

If you come across anything which you think is wrong or needs a bit of a re-phrasing, please, either have a go at editing yourself, or just leave a note here and I'll look into it. If you do know whereabouts in the books the right stuff can be found, that would obviously help a lot.

Thank you very much :D

OK so this isn't really an inaccuracy in the Wiki, but I think it is something that needs to be fixed...

I was reading one of the middle books of the series and looked up Caladan Brook on the Wiki because I was trying to remember something that happened in MoI. Immediately after the MoI section it says "In Toll the Hounds...after the death of Anomander Rake...."

And that really pissed me off. Most of the time on the Wiki spoilers are clearly marked - and if they aren't, they should be. There was no way for me not to see that spoiler - and I was really upset that I saw it. I would argue that it's probably the most shocking thing that happened in the entire series. Surely the entry about Brood can be reworded or include a big spoiler warning.

Thanks

I have added a spoiler warning, BellaGrace, because we do add them for the death of major characters and Rake definitely qualifies.

There is an overall spoiler warning on the main page, additional spoiler warnings are reserved for the death of a major character or an earth-shattering plot revelation.

By listing character info in book order, we are trying to make it a little easier to avoid spoilers. The purpose of the Wiki is to contain all available information and the exceptional extra spoiler warnings are put in as a concession to new readers, but to add them to every bit of information that might be conceived as spoilerish is impractical.

Hopefully, the advantages of being able to check on forgotten bits will outweigh the occasional stumble over a spoiler. And once you are joining the re-read crowd, you won't need to worry anymore :D

PS: you should know by now that nothing in the Malazan World is as it seems, so if you do see a spoiler... who knows... it might only be what it looked like at that moment.... ;-)

Thanks for fixing it and for all the work you and others have done on the wiki!

I wasn't advocating every bit of information be tagged as a spoiler -but something that major (that you can't help but see when reading the entry above it) should be.

Totally agree with you. The two areas where problems are most likely to arise are when the spoiler is for a person other than the one who is the object of the page (like the Anomander spoiler on Brood's page) or when it is a character with a complex duel personality and or time history like Kellanved and some of the very old characters like Draconus, Olar Ethil, Anomander et all. In the first case it's mostly straight forward adding a spoiler warning. In the case of the latter... probably best to avoid those pages.

Thanks very much for your feedback. It is appreciated :p

Soo, I thought i would have a go at contributing to the wikia. I was just looking at pages that needed citation, and on the page for Aral Gamelon it states that it is known to be death aspected. I remember in the book it stated that Aral Gamelon and Hoods warren were like two sides two a coin, but im not sure that it means that Aral Gamelon is actually death aspected. Would it not just be that they are related? There is nothing that i came across to actually suggest that it works in a similar way to Hoods warren, as it is essentially a warren of demonic summoning.

I could be missing something though, I just didnt want to go ahead and change it and it was right all along :)

If memory serves, the summoning of Demons is death-Aspected, because of the nature of the act. The warren itself, I don't think so.

Relevant quotes from MoI. Pg 751, and Pg 767-68, Bantam paperback

Quote

We’ll need a different warren for this,’ the wizard finally said. ‘The choice is this: Hood’s own, or Aral Gamelon—’
‘Aral what? I’ve never heard—’
‘Demonic. Most conjurors who summon demons are opening a path to Gamelon – though they probably don’t know it, not by its true name, anyway. Granted, one can find demons in other warrens – the Aptorians of Shadow, for example. But the Korvalahrai and the Galayn, the Empire’s favoured, are both of Gamelon. Anyway, if my instincts are accurate, there’s both kinds of necromancy present in that estate – you did say there were two of them, didn’t you?’

Quote

‘Demonic summoning. It’s the rarest and most difficult discipline among the necromantic arts.’
Bauchelain responded with a modest shrug.
‘And the power it draws upon,’ Quick Ben continued, ‘while from Hood’s own warren, is deeply tainted with Chaos. Striding both sides of that border between those warrens. As an aside, why do you think the summoning of demons is death-aspected?’
‘The assertion of absolute control over a life-force, Quick Ben. The threat of annihilation is inherently death-aspected. Regarding your observation of the influence of the Warren of Chaos, do go on.’

Ah yes I see i see. So the power itself is a mix of Hood and Chaos, and the act of summoning is also death aspected. Makes sense. I had completely forgot about the run-in between Quick Ben and Bauchelain. Thanks for correcting me before i did something silly :)

Sorry for the late reply, Melonhead. Great to hear you want to contribute to the Wiki. I have added a few of the 'citation needed' to entries were I wasn't too sure about the accuracy, so any help with getting these clarified is great.

On that point, thanks for those quotes, Andorion, with, as I have come to expect from you , excellent source references!!! :)

I am a bit pushed for time at the moment, so may not get round to doing anything about those pages for a bit, but I have added them to my 'to do' list.
