I was originally planning timezone sorted, but that list is fairly timezone split anyway. And with mods in two timezones I'm hoping it won't matter.

I'm not at my own computer until tomorrow evening, when I am I'll set up files for all to access. Can someone do the initial tech draw, then khell to choose race or first go.

Let's try pass order for turn order for the second round, if it causes major issues we will switch back to 2nd pass chooses direction.

PS gnaw between drek and twelve is a good thing, everyone will be after them

I am really digging the humans to be honest. Strong, cheap defense early on and the 2:1 trade ability + 3 moves pr action are ridiculously convenient.

I'm debating either Terrans or Magellan if I do pick first. As I don't know what D'rek/IH might go for, those seem to give me the greatest flexibility.

The two races that have really intrigued me in previous games are planta and orion. If either of those are available when my turn comes up I'd strongly consider one of them. I've done humans 3 out of 5 game so far, so it would be nice to change.

Humans are just so adaptable to weird situations. You can turtle or be aggressive or go heavy research with them as the situation requires. They aren't as good as the specialist races in those roles, but they also don't suck as bad as the specialists if the early-game explores go wrong.

On the iPad version of the game, I play Planta all the time. I love their double explore - as long as you get decent hexes at the beginning of the game, it's easy to expand a lot then just build up your defenses to keep others out of your part of the Galaxy.

That being said, I've never tried the expansion, so additional things like the Nebula or Wormholes might screw all that up. We shall see.

If Planta's still around when it gets to me, that's the race I'll be choosing. Otherwise I'll probably stick with a Terran race.

I found that early game Planta have a significant advantage and I felt quite strong - but once combat with other races came along the lack of flexibility and especially initiative on the ship blueprints was a huge downside. Of course, researching appropriate tech far more than I did last game would help. I quite enjoyed them, but not as much as the Lyra, which was my favourite race to play with so far.

The race that intrigues me the most is Rho Indi, but I think I would likely do badly with them, so I probably won't be picking them.

I was seriously considering choosing first turn instead and choosing my race last after I know what D'rek and IH have chosen - but I've come to the conclusion that's defeatist and reactive. I want to be pro-active, dammit. Make them think, Khell, make them think!

Back to my reading of the race descriptions then To be honest, I had most success when I picked solely on which picture I liked the best.

Since like this you are the very first pick I get almost any race option and IH will still have a few to pick from, so it means right away you probably have to rule out taking anything like Hydra or Planta, because it'd be too easy for me to grab Orion and then squash you, and worst comes to worst IH can take Magellan and put a strong front on your other side, too. Picking first, you're almost shoe-horned into either going very military or middle-of-the-roadish, which is fine if that's what you want. Of course, that means I'll probably pick something else military so I don't get squashed.

Picking last is reactionary, but that can be good. Worst comes to worst, there will probably be a Magellan board left, so you'll most likely be choosing between Terran, Magellan and one other race, which is still a good balance of options and can potentially counter me and IH. It's not that much selection though, which kind of sucks.

I was most likely going to pick Terran or Magellan anyway. I feel with the past few races I've picked I've kinda painted myself into a corner with only a certain way of playing, whereas I like the flexibility that can come with those two races. The reason I'd want to pick first with those races (when they're unlikely to be gone if I was last) is because I can also rule out another race that I wouldn't like to see next to me. Hmm hmm hmm, so much to consider.
