And I don't think I ever played Planta online.

Also if tapper shows up and picks race, so it's not slowed down overnight. I pick whichever of hydrans or lyra are left and discard one cube for money.

Sorry, I was at that time coming back from the airport on 6% phone battery.

Align with the wormhole axis (as) straight (as possible) towards the centre, the tier 2 side wormhole towards Tatts, the lower (tier 4?) towards Lyra.

By the way, that orientation does not signal any intent. I just wanted a WH pointing centrewards; the other wh orientations are arbitrary.

Anyone else notice they used Mu Arae twice for homeworld name. Wonder is they realized that yet or not.

I noticed. And it's the game not the person who made the original spreadsheet. boardgamegeek has pics that people have taken and it's definitely labeled that.

Google boardgamegeek eclipse "mu arae" and this comes up:

An oversight in early development, that I felt might actually be a nice little story element and decided to add to the game flavour. Admittedly that could have been explained better in the flavour text, but we'll see, perhaps one day the stories might be told in more detail..

When we get to playing, will it be IH first then me, or IH then Tapper?

IH & Tapper. Since you got first pick of races you get last pick of actions.

That's what I thought, just that D'rek's diagram showing starting locations had a 1 by IH and a 2 by me, which confused me.

The [1] and [2] there are from parts of the rules referring to those. Something like "Note player 1's position at [1]. Starting with the last player [2], each player something somethings..."

Two wormholes pointed towards Tier 2 for me, and please take my cube off Materials.

Discarding from materials is the worst thing you could do. Everyone knows you take a cube off money to begin with!

I know, I know. I discarded from materials too. But since when is following my lead in Eclipse a good idea - that's exactly why you shouldn't do it!

From the games I've played on my iPad, I've noticed that if I end up with bad hex draws, it's really hard to get a useful ship built on Round 2 to take over some of the Ancient hexes. I figure the extra materials will make it a bit less risky for me. I rarely have many issues with money, though I usually play Planta too, but hey, we'll see how things go! :D

I've been thinking (uh oh!).

If CF/IH/Gnaw have this all setup as an SVG file, is it possible to find a tool that can host the SVG file online and let multiple people edit it? Combining that with Orokos, the dice tracker, we could make it so that everyone can just resolve their own turn.

ie:

It is my turn.

1. I post in this thread "I am exploring southeast of my homeworld (Tier 3)."
2. I go to Orokos and do a random roll, tagged against our "campaign". Get the result. See what hex the result corresponds to.
3. I go to the SVG website. All the not-yet-used hexes are in a pile on the side. I find the hex that corresponds to my dice result, drag it over to southeast of my homeworld, and rotate it however I want. It has a discovery tile. I choose to influence it.
5. I go back to Orokos and do a roll for the discovery. Get the result.
6. Back in the SVG website tab, I find the corresponding discovery in the unclaimed discoveries pile, drag it to my player board and apply the bonus/put it in the taken-for-2-VP spot. I also decide to colonize a planet, so I switch a colony ship to a flipped colony ship and drag one of my cubes to the hex.
7. I post again in this thread, saying "I rolled a 14 for the explore. That corresponds to Hex "Alpha Banana". I also got a discovery - it was 5 science and I took the resources. I also colonized 1 materials planet on Alpha Banana."

The front page/post would have links to the Orokos campaign and SVG website, so it'd be easy to get to them and anyone could go look at the map or previous dice rolls anytime.

Disadvantages:

--Resolving each action would take a more work for that player (but less work for the mod).

--Everyone would need to learn to use Orokos and the SVG site. But I think a lot of that could be mitigated in the initial setup. For the SVG, once IH/CF/Gnaw can set it up with all the pieces on the board, so all anyone needs to do is drag things around. For Orokos, we can prepare some custom dice "scripts" for each instance (one script for discoveries, one for tier 3 hexes, etc) and stick those on the front page with instructions on how to use - shouldn't be too much harder than copy+paste.

--Would not work for people posting on their phone. But that wouldn't be any different from now. If someone can only log on from their phone, they just say that and post what they want to do, and if someone else is online from a computer that other person may be able to help.

Advantages:

--Always have a link you can go see the most up-to-date map and player boards, rather than a 7-turn-old image and trawling the thread to figure out what's missing.

--Could speed up the game considerably when we don't need to wait for 1 person to mod multiple timezones, especially with things like explores that require player, then mod, then player, then mod input.

I think that that is what IH was hoping to do.

I can also see doing it partially with random.org.

List of available hexes.

X explores

Random the list.

takes the top one.

posts the remaining list.

states how they wanted it oriented, etc.

A separate 'Action only' thread could/should? be utilized for the lists.

I've been trying to do that currently all my eclipse image files are on a shared editable google drive folder (which is freely available sharing I think across PC and Mac), however in order to stop the svg file being ridiculously large I've had to link all the images to it, rather than embed them. That means if you download the svg alone it doesn't work, you have to download the connected files.

If it works like I hope everyone (or at least one person in each timezone) can download the connected files from the google drive and edit the file as needed. I was waiting to make sure it worked with Gnaw/CF first before sending it out to everybody, but if someone else wants to join in the effort let me know.

If we need to end up doing it with lists that you take the result out of, then easiest way might be if after you use a list you put the new list in a spoiler box in your post. ie you grab the discoveries list from the first page/previous person, randomize it, use the top item as your result, delete that item from the list, and repost the list in your thread post.

Random.org doesn't track results, though, does it? Hence why I was thinking Orokos would be better. Should be pretty easy - list all discoveries like

1 - Plus 5 Science
2 - Ancient Orbital
3 - Free Cruiser
4 - Ion Missile
...
28 - Axion Computer

and then roll a 28-sided die once in Orokos. If the result is 2, you get Ancient Orbital and you repost the list as

1 - Plus 5 Science
2 - Free Cruiser
3 - Ion Missile
...
27 - Axion Computer

Next player who needs a discovery rolls a 27-sided die once in Orokos, and so on.

(or, if it's a pain to change all the numbers you just move the bottom one to the spot you took:

1 - Plus 5 Science
2 - Axion Computer
3 - Free Cruiser
4 - Ion Missile
...
27 - Nova Burst

Okay, cool!

I hadn't thought about doing it with a shared drive, that could be even better! If the SVG files still get too horribly big, yEd is a program I used for Game #2. It doesn't have nearly as much features as an SVG program as it's main purpose is just for making graphs, but it was able to handle all the imported images at once without crashing and without making a huge save file.
