GOTTA LOVE CRAFT BREWERIES. I'll be buying a bunch of these brands at their normal prices now to make sure Ford gets the message.

It's actually so ridiculous. The percentage of Canadians that work in the beer industry is insane, I can't remember what exactly what the percentage is but I remember being shocked at how high it was.
This stupid plan could cost so many jobs. I mean, I'd like cheaper beer but his way is so stupid.

I don't think it will cost many jobs.

I don't think it will do much of anything other than waste government time and money so Ford can say he kept a promise he should never have made.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Indeed. It's just one more thing that Dougie thinks he can pull to get the beer-swilling, d-bag old white people base that support him more firmly onto his side. It's nonsense.

I think the point is that IF the Craft Brew houses did it, it would cost jobs...but big shittier corporations like Labatt and Molson can do this without taking that KIND of hit, and in those places they can HIDE the more insidious stuff they will do behind the scenes to make it worthwhile to their bottom line, while a craft brew house would just lose money.

But I agree with your second statement, it's all a colossal waste of time just for him to be able to say "See! I am doing one of the things I said I'd do!"

Although, I'm not entirely sure he realizes how much business craft breweries do with the demographic that comes after the Baby Boomers he's currently pandering to.

I particularly like that company that is putting out a limited edition "Buck A Beer" where they donate $1 from every can to refugees in Ottawa. A giant middle finger to Ford Nation, but classy! Great PR!

Sad reality, the mouth breathers are eating this shit up and ready to elect him President-for-Life.That said, I doubt this nonsense is going to change anyone’s POV on Ford n co. He’s not going to sway the people who voted against him with this.

Come to New Brunswick everyone.
We don't have buck a beer--but the money you save buying a house with a couple acres for 160k instead of that DT Toronto condo you're considering will buy you a lifetime of beer!
Plus we have lobster.

I would live on the east coast in a heartbeat if my wife’s job allowed. Perhaps one day!

I was just in NB last week! (St. John) I had a lobster roll and I supported the local economy by spending about $150 on yarn! Seriously, I had no idea you had such a vibrant indie fibre arts thing going. The nice lady at the yarn shop showed me some very lovely locally grown/spun/dyed yarn and a mitten technique that is completely unique to the region.

Be there in 2 weeks, but not to stay.

Flying in then going to the good provinces ...

Thats actually become probably the limiting factor for my orgs recruiting now.

I work for a research institute, and we have an unprecedented (ESPECIALLY for NB) combination of funding, government support (at all 3 levels), data access and development, and existing talent ( heh..humblebrag). We are at the point where we can attract the interest of high quality researchers in terms of salary, funding, and possible research programs..........but their partners won't be able to find a position in NB. E.G. An ontario colleague I'm trying to recruit who is just finishing up his PhD is very interested....but his partner is finishing up her PhD.....and her field basically doesnt exist here.

Aw man...NB is already known in Canada as the "drive through province" don't tell me we're also becoming the layover province lol.
Is it appropriate to ask where you're flying from? It was my understanding that international flights coming this way would normally land in Halifax or Toronto, so if one of our airports got a new international route I'd call that a win LOL.

Know anyone looking for an accountant out there? lol. I wouldn't mind going out there it's just hard when all your family and friends are in Ontario, it's a long drive.

Sidebar: I've now tried the following Ontario Craft Brews in my "screw you Doug Ford, and your idiotic buck - a - beer plan" quest.

Great Lakes Brewery: Canuck Pale Ale
Collingwood Brewery: Rockwell Pilsner
Nickel Brook: Cause & Effect Blonde

....all of which have been solidly good to excellent!

Trying three more new ones tonight.

Oh, and the site I linked that listed all the craft beers giving Dougie the middle finger has grown since last time and includes another 7 or 8 brewers!

No shocker to see Cowbell and Collective Arts join the list. Both have invested a bunch in their respective operations, Cowbell making a destination brewery in small town Ontario, and CA trying a bold international marketing strategy.

Speaking of which, Shindig or Absent Landlord from Cowbell would make excellent additions to your protest taste tour, QT.

Stranger than fiction by CA is also worthy if you are into porters and stouts

Most of nickelbrook's stuff is pretty good. They had them for a few years at the Uki festival in Mississauga, so I drank quite a bit of their lager and dark beer

I initially mistook that for nickelback. Needless to say I rubbed my eyes and read a second time.

:p

On a more serious note, has Canada always had the occasional mass shooting or have the USA's problems been bleeding over the border only recently? I don't recall hearing much about stuff like that in Canada for most of my life, but that may only be because of reporting levels, or more specifically reporting levels in Oz media.

There's been a few over the years but not a ton.
If I had to guess I'd say it could be happening more because of all the media attention they get in the states, not that it's a bad thing to call these people out it's just kind of a tricky issue. You don't wanna make nothing of it but you also don't want to inspire more.

Yes, but closer to occasional, as opposed to frequent, and usually on a smaller scale of ‘mass’.
