I stopped watching AoS halfway through season 1 coz it was dreadful, so I dunno who Daisy and Bobby are.

Daisy is Skye's real name, codename Quake.

Bobbi is the AoS version of the Shield character Mockingbird.

Here they all are kicking ass.

Skye (Daisy)

And here are Bobbi and May fighting together.

Both of those scenes are very Buffy-like to me....nothing on Carter gets close.

And as a sidenote: AoS was better in the second half of S1, decent-great in S2, and has been utterly incredible in S3 so far.

I'd say less Buffy (because I found Buffy boring as hell, and I love Joss Whedon shows) and more Xena Warrior Princess.

I'm not sure the analogy holds... Just because they featured female leads doing heavy action scenes does not draw much of a link, imnsho. Xena was a fantasy show with an underlying redemption thing and a mostly week-to-week approach until the last couple of seasons. Buffy was 'girl grows up, survives highschool, becomes asskikcking adult'. Agent Carter is 'woman is better than her male counterparts in the 40s, faces sexism, kicks ass'.

AoS, to its massive benefit, treats its female cast members as important/interesting as its male cast if not moreso. SkyeDaisyQuake's plotline perhaps runs closest to Buffy, but even then, Buffy wanted to be ordinary and was thrown into something bigger, Skye was an outcast who wanted in.

I will say to Polish, QT isn't wrong - AoS got WAY better and is flying now.

It wasn't really meant to be an analogy that stood up to detailed scrutiny. Just a very broad comparison with the easiest cultural touchstone. Yeah, the circumstances are very different and, from what I know (I've seen much less Buffy than a geek should) so are the fight scenes - much more simple for Peggy Carter who mostly relies on the best straight-right in the history of the world- but they've both got this kind of well-meant but cartoonish flavour of ass-whupping feminism implicit in the theme and demonstrated not just in the main character but the support. Even if Agent Carter leans much more heavily on the point.

I will probably give AoS another go at some stage, but I don't watch all that much television as it is. Thing was when it started I was watching it pretty much alongside the more-similar-than-you'd-think The Blacklist, and the latter was just doing everything much better, the comparison wasn't kind. Mind, The Blacklist did slip in season 2 - hoping season 3 picks things back up a bit.

I keep falling asleep watching it. I think it is more that I'm so tired, I want to like it more...something is just missing.

...and fell asleep about an hour into the 2 hour episode last night. I'm just not caring for this season.

I enjoy this season immensely. I loved s1, but s2 has more of a spring in its step. And the Peggy/Jarvis team-ups never get old. :hrhr:

Cancelled.

Not at all surprised.

I had trouble staying focused in S1 and had no interest in S2 as a result.

I stopped watching S2 after 4 episodes, it was a really poor show, for me.

It was fairly good. Well written, well acted, buy it was very determined to be an early 1950s swan/detective story - which people don't dig in large numbers.

Season two had one of the better villains in the MCU and I think it ended on a good note.

That's about where I stopped too.

Exactly and thank you for a better explanation than 'too cute' I was falling back on.

I thought it was a really well done 50s detective story and Hayley Atwell is a superstar, along with James D'Arcy (Jarvis), Wynn Everett (Whitney Frost), and Bridget Regan (Dottie Underwood/Proto-Black Widow). But people don't dig 50s detective stories anymore. Law & Order et al blew the paradigm/audience for it to smithereens.

The two seasons fits well into the MCU and I'm glad we got them because they gave lots of good to great people work and Carter kicks SO MUCH ASS by being truly smart and resourceful.

Atwell was never my problem with it.

The story, plots (or lack thereof) and much of the supporting cast were, in large part because of the 50s detective thing with the occasional nod to the Marvel Universe and SHIELD, rather than PEGGY CARTER: AGENT OF SHEILD, which, right or wrong, was what I really wanted.
