This author is visiting my local bookstore in Feb...wondering if I should finally try out the first book.

I'd say definitely; these are some of my favorite books I've read lately. And if you look back through the thread, I was quite skeptical at first!

Sounds good. I'm picking up the new Sanderson tonight on my way home, so I'll grab this as well. Thanks.

Morning Star tomorrow. Get excited! Well, for those of us who like/love this series, get excited. All others, remain indifferent.

This one looks a lot longer than the others. I was hoping to finish before Calamity comes out next week but that's not going to happen.

Done..took me two nights to finish.
I can't quite capture the last third of the book properly on a forum. Wow.

WHAT A FINISH!!
Started off, well...a bit weird, but then
Great finish to a superb set of books.
Just one thing bugs me:
Golden son took best sic fi book of 2015 in Goodreads, me reckons this'll take the 2016 prize.

Finished today. Absolutely great series. 5 stars easily. Agree that it'll take best sci fi of 2016. For anyone considering giving the series a go, I recommend the audio books. They are beautifully read. I hate that it's over but at the same time I'm really glad he didn't drag it out. It's short and sweet.

Did anyone else get the "bye, Felicia" nugget in there? I laughed when I heard that, having watched Straight Outta Compton last week which also had the little gem.

I've bought a couple books off people on this forum so I figured it's worth a shot to ask around here. Anybody got a H&S UK 1st of Red Rising they'd look to sell? Tough to come by here in the US.

Great book so far. I see the next part takes us back to some of the less interesting characters from IRON GOLD so curious to see how that plays out.

I'm at about where you are. I'm not hating on Iron Gold, but Part 1 of Dark Age was better than the entirety of Iron Gold. Just wow.
I expect the book to calm down now, though I'm enjoying these new Mustang POVs.

I enjoyed IRON for the most part, but that first part of DARK took probably the bestest parts of that book and amped them.
I have read many sf books. I have read many many epic planetary battles in sf books, including in this series. This... this was among the bestest.
I almost need a calm interlude now. The repeated gut-punches of the end of part 1 were brutal, exhausting even.
....i mean that in a totally good way. And despite my irritation with how

Into part 2... the Mustang chapters are unexpectedly engaging. Kudos to brown, he manages to make politicing exciting to read about.
Ephraim's chapters are an unexpected gift...
And then, finally...
Have to really give Brown credit, that three chapters in a row that are for the most part dialogue, and he makes it riveting, especially that last one.
