I agree with you, Gumbo, but at the same time — we're getting Thrawn on TV! Thrawn! on TV! whaaaaat.

And it looks like the ysalamiri are canon. Any idea about the Noghri?

I'll have to check out Zahn's new book. I haven't read any new canon stuff, but a new Thrawn novel by Zahn himself may be too much to pass up.

Filoni talked about the lizards. It's not them but he put the lizard things up as more of a nod and wink to old bk readers. You should watch the panel! It's about an hr long and it was fairly fun. 2nd best next to Hamills panel I thought.

I'll give it a watch, though I'm disappointed about the ysalamiri. They were pretty OP though, so I understand not bringing them into the canon

I know very little about him or his eyes, so not bothered there.

I thought he was from the eu, post-rotj? So how is he now canon and appearing in Rebels?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Basically, though the events and characters of the old EU are no longer canon, they can still be adapted into the new canon. It's like alternate timeline stuff: this new Thrawn will be very closely based on the original, but obviously the events and stories he's involved with will be different.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Season 3 premiere date is set for Sept 24th.

And Katee Sackoff confirmed hat her Clone Wars character Bo Katan is coming back! That will most likely tie into Sabine's story, but also Darth Maul, since he was the last person in charge of Mandalore.

Also, call it wishful thinking, but I'd still love to find out on REBELS possibly through information from Bo that Obi-Wan broke with Jedi code and slept with Satine producing a bloodline that could eventually lead to Rey. Call me a dreamer. :killingme:

I've seen that bandied about, but I don't buy it at all. Everything we know about Palpatine even since he was young was about shunning family and close contact. I have little doubt he kept his junk in his pants because he literally disdained bonds of any kind...and he certainly would not have wanted to share his power with a child who COULD one day take his power from him.

What does having offspring got to do with bonds of any kind?

Bonds with the mother (physical or otherwise), and with your child.

That's a thoroughly naive position. I'm sure a Sith Lord such as Palpatine is perfectly capable of procreating and using, and considering, the offspring as nothing more than a tool to be implemented and discarded at his leisure.

That's not remotely how he's been presented. The reason Plagueis is able to get to him initally is his innate refusal of general human contact. This is a guy who HATED his parents, and literally shunned their human contact as disgusting. It's why his downfall is human familial love...becuase he literally does not allow it to enter into his throught stream...he can't.

He tolerates human contact later on, that of people he's working with, including Anakin and later Vader...but it never goes beyond being in the same room as them. All his emotions are fueled into anger and hate. You will notice you never saw Palpatine with a woman of any kind at any time. That's by design.

Beyond that, let's break down why this Rey is a Palpatine theory is a stretch, but using the theory's point bullets against it.

1. It starts with her fighting style being similar to Palpatine's in ROTS.

This is a nice try, but her fighting style of the long sweeping pushes of the lightsaber come form the fact that she's spent some 10+ years fighting exclusively with a homemade staff. A weapon with a long reach that requires you either to double grip hammer at people, but is more effective by poking and long forward sweeps to keep your opponent away from you. I DO believe this is backed up in the Behind the Scene's features of the BluRay where they speak on why she fights like she does with a sword. Staff fighting is all she knows.

2. Rey's name means rex/king and that could mean relation to the emperor.

This is silly. Rey is VERY much a disguise name. Whether she gave it to herself, or was told that as her name...I fully believe that Rey will turn out to be another name when the next film comes out....like Strider became Aragorn. Also, tenusouly connecting Rex/King to Emperor...is...weird.

3. It Follows Established Star Wars Tropes AKA a Skywalker VS a Palpatine.

This might work for the ring aspect of the films, but who knows if Disney is following that...but otherwise this is pretty weak as a reasoning.

4. She Was Dumped on Jakku for a Reason (the reason given for the Palps theory is that she's too dangerous and Luke placed her there out of fear of a dark side rise)

So this assumes a few VERY un-star Wars-y things. 1. That Luke would be scared of ANYTHING. Luke literally turned one of the most dark side beings back to the light. He would NEVER be scared of a little girl who happened to showcase strong powers in the force. He would guide her to the light. It also assumes that her being dropped off on Jakku was choice made by Luke....I very much doubt that Luke would have dropped her off into the care of Unkar Plutt...that seems like cruel punishment to a child and not something I'd expect of Luke. But yeah, bottom limns is that every IF Luke found out that Rey was a Palpatine, he would NOT ever abandon her. That's not his way.

So all that kind of blows that theory up. Aside from all else it's KIND of creatively bankrupt to bring the Palpatine line back into the fold. It's like saying, hey we spent 6 films defeating this guy...but hey surprise his granddaughter is back to cause issues...just no.

Good news.... so does Disney. ;)

...but you have to admit, Rey turning out to be a normally aging clone-child of Palpatine would be a great twist.

Also, I want them to clone Admiral Thrawn, just so we can have an episode titled 'Game of Thrawns'.

Wouldn't a clone of Palpatine be a dude though...but also a dude who looks like Palpatine? We have in-canon cloning done and it's always duplicates not just genetic material to make a new different body.

I would admit that having Palpatine somehow having convinced the Kaminoans to clone him (for some secret reason) during the Clone Wars and then keeping that clone super secret even thorough the OT would be kind of cool...but it's still pretty narratively bankrupt.

She is clearly Rey Binks.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours
