Hello all, I am new to the forum and decided to join since I just completed Gardens of the Moon which I truly enjoyed.

I was curious about by one part of the book dealing with the exchange between Crokus and Challice at Simtal's estate, specifically, when Challice tells Crokus she didn't rat him out. Her father hired a Seer. Is the Seer known to the readers?

Nope. That's the only reference to the Seer.Tho personally I always figured Challice was lying and totally ratted.

Doesn't the seer tell Challice's father that it *wasn't* Crokus who killed the guard? But Challice wouldn't have known that, so if she'd ratted wouldn't she have told her father that it was Crokus who killed the guard (or at least not supplied any information to the contrary)?

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

'Of course you didn't. Father hired a Seer. A woman killed that guard, a servant of the Rope's. The Seer was terrified and didn't even stay to be paid! Now get off me, thief.'

The Seer here was just that and nothing more, but the word "seer" has meaning inside the story, in that way that SE uses words repeatedly in association with certain characters.

Quote

She knew that the boy would have to die, yet something within her seemed to be fighting that conclusion, and it was a part of her she could not recognize. She'd been taken, born a killer two years ago on a coastal road. The body she dwelt within was convenient, suitably unmarred by the events of a dramatic life – a young girl's body, a young girl whose mind was no match for the power that overwhelmed it, obliterated it.
But was it obliterated? What had the coin touched inside her? And whose voice was this that spoke with such power and determination in her head? It had come upon her before, when Whiskeyjack had uttered the word Seer.
She tried hard to remember any dealings she might have had with a seer in the last two years, but none came to mind.

Quote

The girl surprised them both by replying in Daru, 'I understand you,' she said haltingly. 'More now. You're not Malazan, you're not speaking Malazan. But I understand you.' She frowned. 'How?'
'Malazan, huh?' Coll said. 'Where are you from, girl?'
She thought for a moment. 'Itko Kan,' she said.
'What the hell?' Coll laughed. 'What storm blew you here?'
Realization flooded her eyes. 'Where's my father? What happened to the nets? I bought the twine, and there was that Seer – Riggalai the Seer, the wax-witch. I remember her – she died!' The girl fell to her knees. 'She died. And then—'
Coil's expression was severe, thoughtful. 'And then?'
'I don't remember,' the girl whispered, looking down at her hands. 'I don't remember anything more.' She began to cry.

The word, when referring to The Pannion Seer, triggers Sorry's memories, so its meant to jump out at you when you see it too. Long story short, tho, yeah that seer Challice mentions is only essentially important in the context she uses it.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

Sorry's reaction to the mention of the Pannion if there was something more to the the exchange. I guess I took the bait.

It also lead me to wonder if Estraysian D'Arle was in league with Baruk, Mammot and the Phoenix inn gang in protecting the Coin Bearer. The Seer or Challice told him that Crokus was there but really didn't care whether or not he actually killed the guard, but thought it would be an excellent way to scare Crokus into hiding. Estraysian's reaction after Rallick killed Turban Orr made me think he was somehow involved. I know that is probably just crack pot since I have a habit of over-thinking minor things.
