Every year there is a conference in Orlando, Florida which attracts big name authors, editors and creative types, but it is primarily an academic conference.
Over the last couple of years there have been a few Malazan papers, and Steven Erikson and Ian C. Esslemont are regular attendees.
Currently there is a call for academic papers for the conference.
http://www.fantastic...ic-imagination/
Academic papers are generally 15-20mins in length and don't have to be on the conference topic.
If you don't want to give a paper, it is still a chance to go to the conference (March in Florida is nice), visit the book room (which has some great offers), meet some cool authors, and hang out with the university types who love SF and Fantasy.
There really is a cool conference, and it would be great to have a stronger Malazan presence there.
If you are interested then please have a look.,
If you know anyone who might be interested, a grad student, or an academic, then please let them know.
And if you have access to a mailing list for universities please let me know so I can disseminate this call for papers as widely as possible, or forward it on.
Thanks

I hope some people have taken this up
“You make worlds, worlds inside your head and worlds outside,
but only the one inside counts for anything.
It’s where you find peace,
acceptance.
Worth.”

So do I.
There is only about a week left before the cfp closes.
Then again, if people want to just come to the conference and not give a paper, that would be cool as well.

Sadly I'm not eloquent enough to do it

Then come along and talk to academics arguing about fantasy, get books signed, buy books, go to Disney.... lots to do while you are there.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.

But you are going to miss out on the massive academic fight when you casually walk up to a group of academics and say that all SF and Horror are types of fantasy..... then take a step back and watch the implosion.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Or say that Harry Potter is the best, most original, and most interesting fantasy ever written..... and watch people explode.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.
