Halfway through Grey Sister.

Started it, realised it had been a while since I read the first one, and despite the recap (thanks Mark!) I just went back and read the first one again.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Started reading One Word Kill, not knowing a thing about it. I'm already a quarter of a way through. This book is slick and I really like the characters already!

Well I know little about DnD and even less about Quantum Physics but I'm enjoying the heck out of this story.

Phew. Finished it. That was immense. I might have missed it, but is there/will there be a follow up to One Word Kill?

In fact, Dispel Illusion is the UK kindle daily deal today, and the hardback + paperback come out tomorrow (world wide).

Great to hear you're enjoying them.

Great to hear!

It's true that they are at the shorter end of genre novels - Limited Wish is 70K words, Dispel Illusion is 72K. But it surprises me to see them called short (even novellas) so often (it seems half the reviews mention this) when Prince of Thorns was only 82K and hardly any reviews call it short. I wonder if there's a magic tipping point between 70 & 80K or if it's to do with some other factor.

For me they feel short because there's almost no filler. Everything serves to drive the story forward. And the fact that they didn't take me long to read - I'm a quick reader usually but I just don't have time to really get stuck into hefty novels right now, so something that keeps me going definitely feels quick. If that makes sense.

Pretty much this.

There aren't really any slog moments within the story that slows your progression, the books move at a real pace and this keeps the pages turning, makes you get through the book quicker and it then feels shorter for it.

Plus I read these books on Kindle, books on Kindle for me always feel shorter when you don't have the weight of the book in hand or the pages to turn.

Btw I finished all three. Incredible how much I came to enjoy the exploits of these characters (feel sorry for Helen haha but know she's ok, in another universe...) and really root for him to work it all out. The last sequence in the tech company building was staggering.

Well done Mark.

Cheers. I thought it all came together nicely. I had a lot of fun writing the trilogy, and I think there are some layers there (about identity, aging etc) for readers looking for more meat/depth too.

Oh yeah it's got levels to it. Also the maths and science went way over my head but I just let it wash through me if that makes sense - I didn't get caught up on it.

Mark,

No ideA why but this morning a random thought popped into my head.

Given the proliferation of weapons they have, and the devastation wrought on Europe.

How fucked up is the North American continent? Or is rest of world something still to be explored in future works?

A few years ago, before settling on writing Red Sister, I did start a book called The New World in which

[SPOILERS FOR THE RED QUEEN'S WAR}

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Jal and Snorri set sail for America.

I wrote about a third of it before getting sidetracked into other projects.

The first 25,000 words - covering the sea voyage - are in the limited edition omnibus of The Red Queen's War as a bonus story!

& this is what the map looks like (100m sea level rise)

In a bout of childish selfishness I demand you finish that story!

Cool as hell though, thanks for the response. I had wondered how you had worked the world map, was the 100m rise an arbitrary number or is that a figure from science if the ice all melted?

IIRC I think I knew that if the ice caps melted the sea level would rise ~70m. And there were online tools to give the new coastline of any place given any sea level, so I had a play. And a 100m rise gave nicer results than 70m while being in the right ballpark.
