Finished Dispel Illusion.
I liked the trilogy yes. Buuuuuuttt. Did not like the ending, too neat and cute of itself for my liking.
Took me a while to catch the professor's name, and link it to the other universes

I didn't mind the ending, I just laughed at the absurdity of it and rolled with it but I can understand your point, it was very "tidy!"
I absolutely loved the name drop at the end, especially with the implications it carried.
And we'll have more revealed in the new book... waiting patiently is hard...

I get that it's (in my mind) almost tongue in cheek slapstick in parts, and absurdly neat in the convoluted way it is as a hold up of time travel premise in fiction in general. but I felt overall in tone the whole final book was much more humour laden in its writing.
I don't think this is a narrative tool because characters are older, as the whole story is told retrospectively anyway in third. I'd be curious if the shift in tone (minor as it was I noticed it anyway) was intentional by Mark, or if it's something that has only appeared in my brain and doesn't actually exist.

Great news - The Girl and the Mountain is *excellent*.
So many answers, so many questions.
So many answers, so many questions.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I'm excited, it's one of my favourite things when a book you are looking forward to is released.
I was just thinking about this, some things I want to find out/happen...
Spoiler
Can't wait, not long now...

Order just arrived.
Wife wants to know if Mark signed this one after cruelly crushing my dreams in the girl and the stars.
Alas, I cry, no signature.
She's not angry Mark, she's just disappointed

It is very good so far. Mark gets better writing the supporting cast with every book. I enjoy every point of view in this book, which is such a luxury.

Fortunately the UK edition is out today & I can point her at two sources where she can secure a signed copy to surprise you with, one really cheap and one a signed & numbered special edition with a super high quality art print.

This will be a test of her love, Mat! I know which version I think she'll get, but what if I'm wrong?

First time multi-pov I think? Either way, I like it, solid fast paced start though I haven't been able to read as much as I would have liked.

Realising when this takes place in relation to the previous trilogy is kind of confusing.
