Coots and Badlands Can't place them...

Hey guys just help me jog my memory please. Are Coots and Badlands the guys in RotCG? They travel with Kyle for a bit? I'm fairly sure that's who they are but I can't quite remember. Does that mean Fischer and Kyle are from the same clan?

I know, RAFO. But I'm really getting into this book so hopefully the answers aren't far away!

Coots, Badlands, and a third guy are all family (brothers and a cousin, I think) who indeed befriend Kyle in RotCG.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Fischer is from their neck of the woods. Kyle's lot live far further south in Assail iirc.

Yeah I realised that cos they are "Losts" and IIRC their connection to Kyle in RotCG is that they are recruited on the same "mission" which turns out to be Assail.

Worry was the 3rd guy Stalker? They have mentioned him a few times & the name is familiar.

It's all coming back to me!

I barely remember anything from RotCG but I do remember Coots, Badlands and Stalker. Always wanted to read more about them, they were decidedly badass.

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

Their story was sad. They deserved better. After they ran Kyle down and tried to knife Mara I wanted more of them.

I kind of loved that our first exposure to Assail natives were a bunch of hick rednecks who just threw themselves at Avowed for the helluvit.

Possum’s ending. I loved his RotCG storyline, and his belated loyalty to Laseen. His guilt and addiction and subsequent sacrifice in Assail was perfect, IMHO. My favorite part.
