I think there's a difference between becoming Second from the leader using the Promote action (which Desra did) and becoming it by default from the previous Second dying.

If seconds were promoted directly by their leader, they learned their leader's alt (and lost their Contract ability)

If people became second in command through brown nosing, they weren't told anything.
