This is dominating the news even more the last 2 days over the Crimea issue. So much has been uncovered the last 24 hrs on altitude changes/course changes. I want to know wtf happened here this has just been baffling to watch play out.

I have not been paying attention the last day or two. The last thing I read said passenger phones are still ringing when called.

Yeah, I've been following this since 4 hours after the flight vanished and it's still just as fascinating. All the new and sometimes conflicting information just makes this stranger and stranger. I definitely don't think this was some accident though, it definitely seems like foul play was involved. Still, I wouldn't have guessed that something like this could happen in this age of gps tracking / strong radar / satellite coverage. It's just odd.
Of course, I feel bad for the families and the passengers. It's got to be brutal to have no idea what happened. Hopefully there are survivors somewhere, but honestly that doesn't seem likely and every passing day diminishes those chances.

Newest news from this morning/afternoon over there is that the officials have conclusively decided that this was a hijacking. Not surprising with all the info that has been coming out recently.

If this is political, it's surprising that no group has claimed it. Which means that for the moment I think it's just as likely to be a criminal hijacking gone wrong.

Nothing official yet. This is based on satellite info that had the plane's last location somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Being so remote an area and having fuel constraints, it has been concluded that there was no possible way for the plane to land and so it must have crashed into the ocean with no survivors. The satellite evidence must have been good though, for them to have a press conference and officially declare the plane lost at sea.
I know a guy who flies the big Boeing jets for an airline and asked him his opinion on the whole thing and he said "either one of the pilots went rogue or it was hijacked. The knowledge needed to turn off all those systems means there was a very small group of people with the ability to do that." Interesting take from someone who could do the same thing, and unsurprisingly goes along with most of what the media believes.
