So where are we right now, Lock at L-4? About 2 hours till timeout?

Yes L-3 now and 92 minutes left

Make that L-2.

Vote Lock

Hmm, having done that, I've just seen that Lock appears to be claiming a role.

If he's claiming a role I think he's left it too late. If we don't lynch him now we're going to have day one all over again tomorrow and he'll probably still get lynched.

Well, too late in the day you mean, right? The train on him built up only within the last few hours so from that perspective I can see why you wouldn't reveal you were roled at that point, esp. on day 1. Unfortunately I agree that if we don't lynch Lock odds are we aren't getting a lynch and day 2 is going to be brutal.

If Lock is scum though, he did a nice job of making me reconsider my vote. :) If we had half the day left before timeout I would probably remove and keep looking but I think we are out of time.

Going on recent history we're lynching Sorry on Day 1?

Wouldn't that be just beautiful. :)

I read his comment as failing in his role as townie, but I could be wrong. In any case, he has hinted at a role and then disappeared, which is always suspicious to me.

Hairlock stares out of the window. Each dip into the chaos stream has changed him. At first, a twitch here, a comment there but now it is full blown rage. He opens the warren but does not enter, he just stares at the doorway. Should I jump, should I touch the edge, he thinks. He picks up a coin and throws it into the warren, he thinks it catches fire but that could just be his imagination.

"Hairlock what are you doing?" he hears a voice and spins around, his little twig legs almost lose balance but he recovers. The warren snaps shut behind him. What is he doing? He hears voices but they are not real, they are inside his head. Hey stick thing, you look like a Forkrul Assail's finger! Why are the voices so cruel. Hey twiggy if I put you in water will you float? Do you even breathe? Can you even have sex? Not when it's that time? That's what she has other... Stop! What are you looking at? Who me?

Tattersail walks into the room to see a tiny figure on fire. It takes a moment but she figures it out, it's Hairlock and he is burning himself alive. She moves her arm from left to right dispelling a huge gust of wind towards the window, the fire is instantly consumed but all that remains of Hairlock is a small pile of ash. She falls to her knees...

Ok I'll tone it down with the speculation then. three days in I guess we need a lynch. guess I'm it.

I thought I was helping us work out what we'd be facing. if I'm likely the distraction I guess I played poorly. my bad. just wanted us to get talking other than being pissed off about what happened earlier.

Just noticed this - what does this comment mean? "Three days in"? Lock, are you still around to clarify this? Is this just another mistake in a long series of posts or did you slip up or something?

That is what I meant. We're too close to time out to look at other options.

Ah, actually that makes much more sense in light of my post that he quoted, I couldn't quite figure out why he did that. But I think you are interpreting it correctly, he was probably referring to my digression on how RI should play when he said he failed at his role.

But like you said, you never know. >.>

I agree that the situation on Lock is such that if he's not removed, it will create more confusion for tomorrow. I can't delay now so,

Picker smooths her hair back, she knows it looks good because her breasts rise and fall and everyone looks, even Sorry and she is one hard bitch to please. Her pile of coins is now 5 piles and she just cannot get enough win. Hedge looks down trodden even for Hedge. He just does not have the know-Hedge that Picker has. Most of the other marines have left and Fiddler's stomach is growling. He wants food and may have to give in to temptation soon enough. Whiskeyjack, Dujek, and Toc the Younger walk into the bar, they take a look around and join the marines at the table. They place a bet themselves and Fid just has to rolls his eyes and keeps on playing.

In walks Quick Ben and Kalam, they got wind of a card game going off in the new quarter and wanted a piece of it too. They enter the room and slide in next to Hedge. Hedge whispers to his left that the games rigged and gets a clout on the ear for his troubles. Fiddler finishes his speech and raises his hands. He throws a card towards Picker and reverse one back to Dujek, he then flips one to Hedge and slides one across the table to Kalam. Picker goes to pick hers up but then Hedge slaps his hand down on top of her card, he asks Fiddler if he can have hers and she have his. Fiddler cracks out a smile and nods. They all turn their cards over. Dujek has Orb a new player in the game but little good for him, Kalam flips his card over and finds Toblakai which is just about the worst card in the deck. Hedge flips his, and cracks the biggest smile he has seen that day, Sceptre, one of the best cards out there, he leans over to grab the coins but then realises picker has to flip her card. She does. She gasps. High House Shadow and in the seat, laughing maniacally, is Shadowthrone. No one can beat her, she throws her arms into the air to celebrate but instead of laughing out loud she slumps forward in her chair, 3 daggers buried deep into her chest. Maybe it just wasn't her day.

Lock is dead. She was Picker, Dolmen Weeks and town.

Paran rolled over halfway and let his arm flop across the other, wider half of the bed. Cold sheets. No Tattersail. I shouldn't be surprised, he told himself. But he was, a little bit. It hadn't lasted long, but no goodbye? He sat up and stretched, his body aching from the still-healing wounds on his chest. Wounds that marked him as a dead man, in more ways than one. He sighed, rubbing his hands over them, feeling another ache lower on his body; something more pleasant. I guess that's as good a farewell as any. He hadn't been sleeping with her long, but Tattersail's last words came back to him - something she hadn't felt in a long time, she said. He wondered if he would ever get the chance to find out how this would end.

He startled himself as he stood, remembering. Lorn was here. And Tattersail hadn't given him away; to the Malazan High Command, he was a dead man. By all rights, he should be a dead man...only the interference of ascendants he'd never imagined he'd see left him alive now. That and Mallet's healing. Lorn...How long since she had gotten him mixed up in all of this? She was using him, he knew now. Was someone using her, too? And now Tattersail... how much did she really know? And who was pulling her strings, if anyone? Maybe she was using Paran, too. Too many pawns; not enough players.

He looked around Tattersail's quarters for probably the last time. He needed to see Toc, needed answers. Needed to leave before someone realized he was still alive. He started to dress and reached for his uniform...and stopped. He rubbed his thumb over the insignia and the armband thoughtfully. Captain...of the Bridgeburners. A rotating door in Onearm's Host if there ever was one. He still remembered his first encounter with the Ninth in that tavern. He could feel a prickling in his back as the hairs on his neck stood up, a fateful premonition of what had happened to the other Captains whose rank he now wore. Lorn had already betrayed him; if she didn't kill him, some Bridgeburner with a indiscriminate grudge would. Or another Hound of Shadow appearing from nowhere. All just one more knife at his throat. And that was only if he could trust Tattersail...and perhaps by extension Hairlock, the crazed mage whose message he had delivered. Also a pawn, but a dangerous one - and whose? Certainly not Tattersail's. Not 'Sail's, for sure...

Paran grabbed his boots and strapped on his sword. The recruit, Sorry, had been his primary objective for so long, but with Lorn abandoning him, he no longer trusted the plan. Sorry was more dangerous than even Lorn knew. More knives in the dark...Someone was going to die, and soon.

Paran quietly slipped outside and went in search of Toc the Younger.

Hedge didn't throw a dagger, he's not a bad loser but he didn't dislike Picker. He looked across at three unknown marines, they weren't even part of the game, they had been there all afternoon. Watching. He thought they fancied Pick and that is why they were staring. If only he felt something other than the shame of losing. He takes out a sharper, Hood take them, Hood's hairy sack. Think they can come into a pub he is in and kill his Hood forsaken friend. Hood knows that ain't happening. Fener's breath. He lifts the sharper and takes aim. Just as he goes to throw it, a hand grabs his wrist, the sharper falls from his hands but a pale white hand catches it.

Sorry. She shares a look with Hedge.

Then turns and walks over to the three men Whiskeyjack, Dujek and Kalam are holding. She thrusts two fingers into the first man's eye. Pulls out, wipes them across his screaming mouth, caresses his cheek down to his neck and rips out his trachea. He flops to the floor. She then turns to the next man. One quick stab in his eye and a yank of his trachea and he flops too. The third man has shit his pants. He is praying to Hood that it be quick. That death doesn't hurt. Quick had seen enough he opened a warren beneath the man's feet and dropped him into a hole. Death will not be quick for this man. No he can stay alive for a little while yet, until the air runs out that is. Sorry is angry, she wanted to make this one last.

Whiskeyjack turns and heads into the latrine. He is struck with grief. He wants to be sick but knows that he won't be. He pulls down his pants and sits down. As he looks up he sees Sorry standing there. She looks scary.

"What do you want marine?" he asks.

She peels back her lips and reveals her yellow teeth. She throws something into the air and catches it. Hedge's sharper. She looks right in his eyes. She sees him calculating, thinking, he's not scared. She knows she will never get another opportunity like this. She throws the sharper right at where Whiskeyjack is sitting. It explodes. The sound rips through the whole building.

The marines pile into the bathroom, there's blood everywhere. Hedge looks stricken. His sharper. Sorry! Oh how he is sorry.

Sorry emerges from her warren into the alley. Whiskeyjack's death is only one of many. Many more to come that is.

Rikkter is dead. He was Sergeant Whiskeyjack, Macros and Town
