I saw a list of top 100 Foreign Films a couple weeks ago; I had watched several, but not enough to maintain my status as an erudite snob. These were not B movies but actual art films, in part.
Now I want to watch weird movies with subtitles as I sip my macchiato

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Two best foreign films I've ever seen were BLOWUP and SAVE THE GREEN PLANET! and they couldn't be more different from each other. Oh yeah, and EL TOPO.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

Akira Kurosawa was an amazing director. Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo, Sanjuro Throne of Blood, and The Hidden Fortress are all movies that I enjoyed immensely. Red Beard and Ran are on my to-watch list already. I should probably check out his "modern" flicks as well at some point.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

You should definitely see High and Low which is a fantastically tense crime drama, and Ikiru which is one of the most profound movies of all time (not to get too lofty).
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

All the japanese movies in the list are pretty good.
The hong kong kung fu movies in the list are pretty weird considering that there are some really good ones that I have seen and I have never heard of these.
B grade horror and scifi movies are not my cup of tea.
The list was probably made by some cult movie fan.
Regarding the AFI list, I never understood why Citizen Kane is often regarded as one of the best. I failed to watch it 3 or 4 times before I finally forced myself to finish it. In the biopic category, I would say the Aviator is a heck lot better.

CITIZEN KANE, like BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, succeeds on the merits of being phenomenally early works of stylish filmmaking. Neither of them make for great stories, but the technical achievements within them is what makes them worthwhile. AKA we didn't watch CK in Film Class for the story...we watched it for technical reasons, and I think that's why it made the list.

And also for the best room-destroying scene that has ever been shot on film.

You know it's strange. I love RAN, but when I sit back and compare it to Kurosawa's earlier stuff I find it pales in comparison.
But then I'm a huge SEVEN SAMURAI, YOJIMBO, & SANJURO fan....so that probably blinds me.
RAN is solid, but he had a more deft eye as a young man, than he did as an oldster.

The screen grab of number 22 (The Power) makes me think it is some bizarre fetish flick.
The only one I'm pretty sure I've seen is The Two Faces Of Dr Jekyll, although Munster, Go Home! rings a bell somewhere.
There's a few I'm going to try and source actually on here, thanks for pointing it out. (Not including, I hasten to add, The Power)

About once every few years, the Film Festival theatre here (the Bell Lightbox) does a samurai fest for a couple of weeks, and they show almost ALL Kurosawa's early work. First time I ever actually SAW SEVEN SAMURAI, it was on the big screen. It's a hell of an experience. i highly recommend it if you can find a screening.
They also do Myazaki fests and show all his films...which makes me giddy with glee as well. Here is the badass trailer:

Watched BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW last night (Its available to stream in the US on Netflix).
HOLY MINDFUCK BATMAN!
Like THX1138 on brown acid. And for a flick made in 2010, they did a hell of a job making it feel like it was 1983. I recommend it.

Even the trailer for that is pretty freaky. Haven't come across a way to watch it here yet (I live in an internet blackspot called Ireland, so streaming movies is a no-go.)

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I wish I knew of a way to get it to you that wasn't illegal and that isn't very frowned upon by others on this forum.
