"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

That's a big twinkie.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. That's an awesome idea, and I think the cover art is fantastic.
Any guess on who the woman is? This has to be Pale, so I was thinking Sorry.

It's got to be Pale, so my guess is that's supposed to be the Malazan mage cadre with a skinny Tattersail.

My first thought was Lorn. Fits the best, in my mind.

Yeah, that could be it. I didn't pick Tattersail because of the skinny part, but artistic liberty being what it is... I think that you are right that it is the mage cadre though, because they seem to be on a hill. Initially I was thinking Bridgeburners with Whiskyjack. Apt's pick of Nightchill is a good choice too, may be the best choice.
Either way, it's a great piece.

I think it's Fiddler. You don't see the face. Who's to say he doesn't have a big long pony tail?

I was thinking sorry.
The leathers and armgaurds on her forearms scream fighter to me. Only problem being a huge lack of daggers and she isn't Kanese.
A thinner version of Tattersail makes sense after that fact.

Broken record time: does this correct all the crazy mistakes in the first few ebooks in the series?

Doubt it. Of course, the only one I'd really like to see is the swapping of "Tlan" and "Imass". (In GotM, Tlan is the original race name, and Imass is the ritual.)
