I moved to Canada 2 years ago, I miss the guinness from back home in Ireland. Having said that, there are some fantastic beers over here. Its just that theres way more terrible beers than i'm used to...

It was the Soldier Son trilogy, and hoo-boy is that a depressing fucking read. And not very good.

I would go with most anything by Hobb. I read one book at random (can't remember which) years ago and thought it was decent, so I decided to pick up the Soldier's Son and the whatever Ships books. Couldn't stand them.
Second vote would be the Acts of Caine. Picked up Heroes Die based on the OMG you should read this shit thread here and was annoyed by it from the start.

In addition to Farlander, which was backed by Abyss, I would like to also mention Black Sun Rising of the Coldfire Trilogy.....also recommended by Abyss. Just felt like a slog, so I put them down.

I still need to pick back up on Tryshalle's Blade for Caine.

This forum generally has never steered me wrong in a book that I dedicate to reading. However, authors like Wolfe who require a little more work to read are still left untouched. Hell, I still haven't broken open Republic of Thieves because I'm in a Orb, Scepter Throne re-read.

Book of the new sun and the wizard knight by gene wolfe i couldn't get through and had to put down.

I don't know anyone (even ardent hobb fans) who liked the soldier's son series. Put me off hobb for a while, but her newer stuff is much better.
