This really must be discussed. A U.S. meetup is way overdue and there will be New Zealanders here in the STATES! So let's pin down dates so that proper arrangements can be made. I already have plans out of the country June 30th - July 7th (I am an American and find it difficult doing dates the way that the rest of the world does) so I propose July 12th, 19th or 26th. Anywhere works for me, although I think Chicago or New Orleans would be good locales.

IN for July 12th Meetup in Chicago:

1. Lady Bliss - Arriving sometime Friday, depending on when other folks are getting in.
2. Starling
3. KL
4. Venge
5. HD
6. Obdi
7. Amphibian
8. Gust Hubb
9.
10.
etc.
etc..
etc...

May actually be in the US next summer. No, I have no ideas of dates or places but we will be doing a bit of travelling so it's possible I might make an appearance!

Chicago gets my vote, although Nawlins is a mighty temptation. The best times to schedule this are usually in late July or early August.

I will be there and this time, I won't get lost for forty five minutes finding parking.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

An August meeting in Chicago is not outside the realm of possibility. July and New Orleans are both out of said realm.

I should amend this to state that Minneapolis and Milwaukee would also be options for me.

Chicago and I'll (probably) make it. Orleans Neuvo would be tough with the summer crunch at work.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Chicago might be out of the way but I still think it could be a possibility, especially in August...

I have holidays in the first three weeks of July, and the current plan is to spend at least two of those weeks in the states. I believe the current plan is New York, Chicago, New Orleans, but nothing is set in stone at this stage.

There are essentially five places you need to go in the USA: New York City, the Grand Canyon, Chicago, the sequoiah forest and Washington D.C.

If you mean "Chicago because that's where we'll meet up" then fine. But otherwise why would Chicago be in the top 5?

It's an amazing city, with plenty to do on any night.

I would rank it third among American cities (NYC and San Diego being the top two) and what it provides is a look at the American Midwest without being full of fucking corn fields and stuck in Podunkness.

I can attest to the fields and podunkness. We only got wifi at my house a couple months ago.

Chicagos a possibility if I can make it a weekend trip with the fam.

NOLA is highly possible as well. The ole lady's been dying to go back there since we left.

And if for some reason RLY gets lucky and it is in Seattle I could make that too. The in-laws live in Spokane and the mrs. will go as much as possible.

As a Midwesterner, I don't really have negative things to say about Chicago (except

The Bears Suck
)

However, I think that some other cities are far more interesting. Seattle, San Fran, Boston come to mind. I like Chicago a lot, but I don't think I'd rank it in my top 5. Top 10 perhaps.

It's named Second City for a bucketful of reasons.

I lived in Boston for a number of years. It is the worst laid out major city outside of Los Angeles, the weather isn't good and there isn't the overall variety or interesting mix that other good major cities possess.

You folks are plum out of your minds if you want to spend any time in the summer in Louisiana. Have any of you actually been there in the summer? You sweat to death in the shade sitting doing nothing. With all the drinking you folks do someone will die of dehydradtion. I guess that alone will make it epic but it would also make it a serious buzz kill.

But Chicago or New Orleans, either way, I'm out.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
