Yah in the book I believe it's a simple matter of Ellcrys weakening = barrier to the Forbidden weakening, nothing more particular than that.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Is it bad that this is the image I had when they show the Roc flying.

Is it bad that I remember exactly where I was when I first saw that image? Bamberg Germany. 1983. It was a double picture paired with The Wall. It was also the first time I had ever seen someone actually snort coke. And I found out about three months later that that was the moment when I had been tested as a probable narc. With the resultant penalty had I been one. The people in charge were the ones who learned their trade at My Lai. Not every soldier is a hero.

Mildly less shite episode this week, tho not without its badness...
The rave scene in the latest ep was unintentionally hilarious. Cowboy hatsssssssss!
Also, if Wil had lost the elfstones again I was going to physically assault the tv, so minor kudos to the writers for that save. Now they need to one entire episode without one of the leads being captured and having to be rescued by the others.

Did not like this episode. Very transparent plot twists, stupid bad guy, straight up, dumb filler episode. I think I'm done with it.

I think the thing that stretched credulity the most in this ep, beyond the idea that this little commune in troll lands has figured out how to wire up a generator for lights, record player, projector ect. (tech and knowledge that is at this point 1000 years old), and even beyond the chances of a vinyl record being able to survive this long being pretty slim....the Star Trek film strip. The fucking Star Trek film strip. Celluloid, not properly cared for and stored, hasn't even fucking lasted since the 1920's FFS...not even 100 years. A thousand years would result in that film being reduced to less than dust. It would not be playable, and even if by some miracle it was stored properly and survived, the picture would be fucked, and the sound would be unintelligible. And a 1000 years would mean that the english language would have VASTLY changed. Thousand year old english to us is pretty hard for us to understand. Hell, 500 year old English is hard to understand. This whole time I just assumed that they were speaking whatever dialect they were speaking and we (as audience) were being translated to. But no, the group at the party perfectly hears and understands Kirk and Spock...who SHOULD be speaking an completely foreign version of the language.
The show has a few great things going for it. Ivana Baqero is great, so is Austin Butler and Manu Bennet (of course)...and for the most part the fantastical set pieces are great (Castle Pyke was especially cool). The Dagda Mor is creepy and awesomely designed.
But jeebus episodes like last night's just make me weep. Not only was it a filler episode, but it was a BADLY written filler episode in which it seems like they just wanted to bash everyone on the head that this used to be our world.
I'm still in for the rest of the eps...(only two left surprisingly), but this one seriously tested my faith when a show like THE 100 is doing this (minus the fantasy) SO much better.

I wonder whether the whole guns thing wasn't setup for something down the road. Also, no Tye-die so we'll probably see him again, esp since rapist child-slavery dad is probably done and they'll need someone else to follow them around and steal the eflstones a few times.
Admittedly I've only seen five minutes of it, but even THE 100 was generally considered a shite CW teen-targetted Hunger Games ripoff for its first season.
There is a fucktonne of things going badly with SHANNARA, but there are tiny (tiny TINY) kernels of what could be a decent show eventually.
Not sure I feel like hanging around for it, but thus far nothing has been so awful as to make me ffwd (unlike, say massive chunks of HEROES S3-4).

You NEED to watch it Abyss. Give it 4 or 5 eps, and be sucked into it like the rest of us. It will be time better spent than SHANNARA. Seriously. I can't endorse THE 100 more. It's incredible (and in Canada it's on Netflix in full and up to currently airing eps each week).
EDIT: It's not remotely Hunger Games-ish. Unless teens arguing and having relationships on future earth is the way that label found itself attached to the show. But yeah, it's not that at all.

Aye man, check out The 100, I was pretty meh for the first episode or so but that show really progressing, characters actually grow and change throughout the seasons, very little filler or stereotypical story lines, it's a good watch.
As for on topic... that episode was BAD! Talk about totally getting thrown out of the setting with the lame ass party, the other story lines were pretty poor also.

So THAT'S what an Amish rave would look like... I'm not going to bother criticizing this time; you all have covered that well

I'll add my encouragement to try The 100. It is MILES better than what Shannara has attempted. I'm still enjoying it quite a lot into S3.

All your 100 recos are duly noted. Netflix has it so easy enuf.
I think I figured out why I'm enjoying SHANNARA despite its ongoing stupidity.... It's the show ten year old me wishes was on a couple of decades ago.The latest ep... Oh whatever. It was more of the same but mildly better than the Amish Rave ep, plus the Vagnomes got to do some stuff and make me laugh every time they were on screen. It actually looks like they'll wrap the ELFSTONES story next ep.

You and your Vagnomes, lol! Thanks a lot; now every time they're on screen that word goes through my head and I can't stop staring at their faces!
Does anyone who's read the books think

It's actually exactly that, without need for speculation: http://shannara.wiki...wiki/Mallenroh.
What I liked about this episode is the San Francisco/Oakland sign and the Safehold connection. What I hated was Ohmsford grabbing a piece of chalk and LITERALLY spelling it out for everyone. That's pretty much this show in a nutshell.

I utterly hated that he almost lost the fucking stones again. As a plot device that is sad tired idiot territory by now.

I think I'm out for the "next" season.
