Well guys, I'm about to go to bed, so if any decision is made, it may be a while before resolution. Cheerio!

Hey PS, I'm putting my decision together now. Do you have 5 minutes to spare?

Ok, so a couple of things have stood out to me.

Jalan spent a lot of time yesterday talking about the no-lynch and suggesting that this implicated Fanderay, because Fanderay said that he had fallen asleep earlier than he had expected to. It's generally been my experience that scum tend to talk about night actions more than town do, because there is generally a reason for the night kill, scum try to use it to implicate other people so they need town to talk about it. The suggestion that Fanderay had slipped was weak, but it got me thinking that both Fanderay and Jalan were away at the end of the day, and if either of them had picked Hanas as a target it wouldn't have been changed before the lynch, leading to the no-lynch. In the light of this, Jalan's attempts to push this on to Fanderay seem pretty scummy. It's not the first time Jalan has talked about the night kills either, he brought up Cast's kill too, and got no response.

Add to this the fact that Jalan has been a lot more active since potential D-day rolled around, his participation didn't increase dramatically but he became a lot more forceful, building his own cases and placing early votes.

So, I know it's not much to go on, but there isn't really anything else that separates you.

Vote Jalan.

“Here Malachi, I bring back the book. Please, just take it!”

The master librarian did not immediately put his hands out for the book. “Where had it been, Berengar?”

“I found it in Severinus’ herbarium. I was still hiding there when...when he was killed.”

Malachi felt his heart start to beat faster. “So – you saw who it was. Who killed Severinus, and Venantius, and that fool boy Adso?”

Berengar looked away. “No. I...I was too scared. I just hid behind the curtains.”

“Ah, ever the coward, eh Berengar.” The permanent sneer on Malachi’s face grew, if anything, even more disdainful.

“Just take the book, Malachi. But be careful! See how I wear gloves? Put some on yourself when handling this book – the pages have been smeared in some kind of infernal poison...”

“It is very unfortunate that you know about that.”

Startled, the two monks turned to face the newcomer. Old, blind Jorge of Burgos shuffled in. “It is not the poison that is infernal, but the book itself! Do you even know, Berengar, that everything that has transpired here is because of that book? Because of the things that it has made us all do? Because of the things which it says, the persuasive words of the Devil himself to bring ruin upon us all!”

Jorge came up to them, and both took an involuntary step backwards, away from the maddened, contorted features of the old monk.

“Because of that book, you, Berengar, seduced and corrupted young Adelmo. Oh, do not deny it! He came to me straight after, riven with guilt, and confessed his sins. I gave him the only advice worth giving – his soul was lost, and the best he could do was to end his life and so rid us of his corrupting influence. Because of that book, I had to pass judgement on the souls of Venantius and Severinus, who both had at different times come into possession of it. Then there were those investigators, William of Baskerville and Bernard Gui – I could not let them see the shame this book had brought upon our monastery, so they had to disappear and die. And young Adso – ah, I was sorry for that one, but I could see him becoming another Adelmo.”

During Jorge’s horrifying speech – his confession – Malachi had managed to regain himself somewhat. “Look, what is this book even about? You both know I don’t, nor care to, read Greek.”

“It is Aristotle's lost book on Comedy, Malachi, the only known copy,” whispered Berengar.

“Yes!” Jorge thundered, “His book on Comedy, the one which says that laughter is the window to the soul! Heresy! Foul heresy! Laughter is a devilish trick, a ruse to corrupt the weak, it should never be heard among the pious and faithful! Ah, but so many are falling to the foul teaching of Aristotle, from the pope on down – I could not let this be the final step in our doom.”

Malachi stood stupefied by this pronouncement. The old man would do – had done – anything to protect his faith, or at least his version of it. He shook himself, and made to move past Jorge, to go and summon help. But Jorge heard his movement, and stuck out his leg to trip the librarian, sending Malachi falling against a table –

- And sending the lamp that had been sitting on the table sailing through the air, to land straight onto a pile of manuscripts. The fire caught quickly, almost immediately spreading to the wooden pillars against which the manuscripts had been leaning.

Berengar and Malachi escaped, but Jorge was not so lucky. Indeed, he had not even made any move to the exit. But rather, to the book which Berengar had dropped. Even as the fire surrounded him, even as it engulfed that entire, wondrous library, he tore out its pages, and stuffed the poisoned leaves into his mouth. No one would ever read that book again. No one would know the curse of laughter and think it a blessing. He had done what he had to do – and he felt his soul would be at peace.

Jalan has been lynched. She was Jorge of Burgos, scum, and D’rek.

TOWN WINS!
