No worries, do it tomorrow. As you say, it's pretty late for me anyway :smoke:

I think you should just do the roll for the third starbase, and leave the others as they are already cough cough.

Yeppers. The mistake was the starbase was alive so it gets to shoot. That's exactly how I handled the now defunct engagement 3. Which starbase 4 missed twice by the way.

Yeah, the likelihood is it will miss anyway, but even a barely alive missing starbase is better than a dead one!

I finally got to play the tabletop version at the weekend. We played the basic version without expansion, as the other three had never tried it before.

It took about an hour just to set up. With the playing itself, the two people who were really into it at the beginning got bored and faded out by the end (it took us about 5 hours to finish the game), while the one who was sceptical ended up getting hooked by the end. So mixed reviews thus far. I fear I may have had something to do with that, as I took cruel advantage of knowing the game, bought missiles early on, and stomped all over everybody.

Missiles, man. I can see why there are complaints about them being overpowered.

I never had much problem against the missile strategy myself. You just need to be aware it's there.

I think the missiles thing is more of a problem when the galaxy is less interconnected, which is common with newer players. New players want to avoid everyone so they explore such that they all have only chokepoints to their homeworld and as few paths as possible through tier 1. Then the giant missile fleet comes knocking and there's no way to get around it to counter. Missile fleets tend to have to be one big entity, so when the galaxy is more connected you have more options as far as running around the missile fleet.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

There was nowhere to run after I put tachyon drives on all my ships :p I was also playing as Mechanema, so had cheaper building and faster upgrading too. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. In fairness, though, I didn't really go after anyone so much as they came to me. The best bit was seeing one person suicide attack me, thinking that everyone would join in with her, only for her own boyfriend to invade her now undefended territories. Eclipse - ruiner of relationships :smoke:

I know this was a while ago, but does this game show people battling ancients on "each turn" rather than each round? Just a query.

No, I think it's just confusing because he says 'Turn 1', 'Turn 2' etc, when he actually means 'Round 1', Round 2'.

Okay good, I was thinking they may have had different rules at the beginning when they were doing their tests!

Gnaw to finish off the warp portal battle, but he wasn't around yesterday.

We've gone from:

2 Cruisers and 4 Starbases VS. 2 Dreadnaughts, 2 Cruisers, and 2 Interceptors,

to:

3 Starbases VS. 2 Cruisers and 2 Interceptors.

One of my starbases is still to fire at the remaining invaders, currently.

I think the whole battle should be restarted because you made Gnaw make mistakes by talking to him so late at night.

I don't really. I think we (you and I Khell) should play your board game via facebook, and you can upload the pictures as we go :smoke:

I hope Gnaw is doing okay. He's usually all over this place pushing us to move quicker.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Yeah, hope everything is all right.
In other news, I'll be hosting a 7 player game this weekend with 3 new players, 2 who played once or twice and the GF and myself, who are slightly more experienced. Curious to see how it goes.

I am going crazy. You all have the game and can play when you want. No wonder you're all comfortable with one game running on here. It's nothing to do with this game going slow. The more games I play, the more experience I get. That makes me a better player. I am already itching to play another game.

There's still quite a lot of stuff out there that I know nothing about. The other day I came across a scheme to systematically use white planets to cycle cubes out from one track to another - place Materials on it, deinfluence, return cube to money/science track, Influence again, place Materials cube.

I think I'll test that.

I was doing that with the supernova in the chatclipse game and it blew up on me! My production was great and I had a good shot at being up there at the end. Then within one turn/round I was near the bottom of the pack, stupid decisions and the wrath of D'rek!

I wanted to do it this game too, and is why I shouldn't have let D'rek take Rigel. I was planning on getting adv economy and colonising all the money planets and using the supernova to increase science and material production. Only adv economy never came out, which screwed my entire game. I think the good players like D'rek are good at adapting to whatever situation is thrown at them. Whereas someone like me would need to have been in that situation before to understand what to do next time.

I was going to do that with Spica this game too to up my materials at the expense of science (once I already had the tech I needed) and then my ally up and got all aggressive and I had to forgo my passive tendencies.

It was purely in the interest of defence and peace. Our legal department were clear in their verdict that a preemptive strike forced upon us by the illegal actions of the Draco were well within the boundaries of the Rigel 4 convention. This clearly follows from the wording of article 5 section 3. The phrase "unless actively engaged in hostilities" must be understood in context of the Treaty of Ezamun, article 48 b, cf the treaty's art 4 second paragraph and art 29.

Pursuant to the Agreement of Nations, it is the right of every sovereign species to defend itself against unlawful aggression, cf The Rigel 4 Convention art 2. The Hydrania do recognize the principle of First Shot as defined by the GCJ in Mechanema vs Planta. The word "Shot" must however be understood to cover a wider scope of action than merely the act of firing a cannon. The Hydrania point to the GCJ the Galaxy vs twelve, wherein the honourable LJ Dhenim stated in his majority votum: It must remain clear that the defence of land and sovereignty strikes at the very core of what the Rigel 4 Convention is designed to regulate.

In our situation the attack on Galactic Sector 104 and 105 must be analogically placed within the same framework as "defence" as pr LJ Dhenim's dictum.
