The cast are killing it (pun intended) this season.

Dex and Deb's interaction is way more interesting.

I'm liking mysterious shrink lady Vogel tho i think she totally has an evil alt agenda.

Not missing Laguerta. She was tedious last season.

Quinn's plotlines are a bit tedious but i'm hoping he turns the tables on Matthews at least.

It's alright, but for a final season it's lacking so far. Season 7 was a lot better at this point. Hopefully the second half of the season will kick things into gear.

At this point in S7 Deb was trying to 'fix' Dexter and basically being intensely annoying. As was Laguerta. Plus Quinn was chasing a Russian prostitute. I like this season better.

Agree with you Abyss. I am loving the heck out of this season. The lady they cast as Vogel is fucking phenomenal, with her creepy droopy eyelids.

I'm thinking Vogel tries to turn rich kid into her next pet serial killer, clashes with Deb about it and ultimately Dex has to take rich kid and Vogel out.

The S1 maria thing was a non starter, tho awkward.

I liked Maria last season, because she was the first cop in a long time to investigate Dexter. I hope eventually, this season, someone smartens up and sees all the clues that lead to Dexter being a killer, and actually catches him. I was hoping Deb would turn him in eventually, but it looks like she's cool with it now, so whatever. I hope they catch her too for killing Maria and that thief guy.

Well Dexter did leave a toy with his kid last episode that links him to a murder, and kids love showing off their toys so.... cross my fingers!

I have a feeling that Quinn will start to investigate Dexter, but Deb will bat her eyelids and he will let him go.

OR it will come down to a replay of the Dex v Maria situation with Deb holding a gun on Quinn and Dex, only this time Deb shoots Dexter.

...oh fuck me that's actually likely...

Just watched episode 6 last night.

Showtime are setting things up nicely and so far i can see the end result steming from 1 of 6 places. Deb, Quinn, Rich Kid, Vogal, Hannah or my favourite Harrison with the Teddy.

I know that i hope that Dexter gets his happy ending but then again i want it to be a Finale in the sense that they cannot bring it back.

Neat to see Hannah again. Great entrance.

The scene with the kid in the kill room was predictable. I'm hoping this plot line doesn't go down the obvious route.

I don't know if this season is getting worse, or my patience is just running thin.

Debra's whole turmoil with what her brother is, and what she did, was the first real character struggle that I could identify with in a long time in this show. Since season 5 and on, I've basically been strung along waiting for Dexter to be caught or killed, and getting frustrated with his guardian angel miraculously pulling him out of 20 damning situations per episode. But Debra's whole thing since after she discovered him was a really good character point for me. While I thought it was a ridiculous plot point to have her kill Laguerta, I thought it was a nice touch that they gave her the post-event trauma for the first chunk of this season. But I thought it was such a cop-out how quickly they just made her "all better", and okay with Dexter at the same time.

Now we're back to the show piling on twenty different character plots, conflicts, and "crazy events" with no real heart. I feel like it's really not doing a good job making me feel anything about Dexter's desire for vengeance against the brain surgeon, his romance with Poison Ivy, Quinn's conflicting love interest and career disappointment, Vogul's maternal instinct, Jamie's fear, etc. It's because there's little room to flesh out these elements in between the unnecessary multitudes of plot points that have to be squeezed into the limited screen time. Debra, in her post-discovery struggle, was the first real character I could identify with since Doakes, but that's gone now, and if they make her relapse on her views, it would be more reflective of the writers' indecisiveness than Deb's.

I've gotten this far, so I guess I'm just back to waiting for Dexter to be caught or killed. If anyone catches him, I hope it's Batista. I hope he gets Deb too, for killing Laguerta.

One ep to go.

I'm a little annoyed with Hannah's plotline... which is so ridiculous on so many levels... ffs put on a hat! And Elroy's sudden obsession with her is just a weird character shift.

I liked the Vogel/Brain Surgeon story, tho the way Vogel went from psychiatric genius and manipulator to gushing emotional wreck was a bit silly.

Just a lot of developments on the contrived/convenient side of the fence as opposed to clever.

Liking Deb's development. Dexter's changes have been well handled even within the Hanna and Vogel storylines.

Enjoying the season overall, but not their strongest.

I have just watched the second last episode (bloody UK a week behind)

Not going to lie, for a final season it has been quite slow to get going, but after last nights episode there are a few ways that this could turn.

I did like the revelation with dexter near the end of the episode when he has the epiphany (sp?) about his dark passender, and it was sad when a certain someone stoped being there too, i felt a little sad about that.

Im going to try and watch the finale asap though as i really want to see how they are going to pull it off.

Anyone thats watched the last episode, please dont provide a spoiler BUT is it a good finale?

Haven't watched the finale yet but this is by far the worst season. It's not just disappointing for a final season. It's bad, period.

Saw the finale.

Without spoiling anything, it was a satisfying end, that nailed all the right notes, i think. There is a contingent of fans, probably several, who are going to be absolutely bugnuts furious about certain developments, but overall as a viewer who's been watching the show steadily for four years now (S1-4 marathon and 'live'ish since), the ep held my attention and i'm good with it.

Spoiler

Overall i'm satisfied with the 8th season. Maybe it didn't blow my mind throughout, but it was a solid ending to a solid series.

My expectations were as low as possible, but I actually enjoyed the finale. It was quite moving and emotional near the end, with the music and scenery. But the last scene...lol.

But yeah, my opinion matters not as I'm not a fan.

Carry on.

The ending was bad, and it basically confirms what I think has gone very wrong with the show since season 5.

See, the guy who ran the show left it after season 4, in case anyone is wondering why the quality dipped heavily after that. Ever since then, it's been run by a bunch of Dexter fanboys who don't really understand that the character they're writing is very morally ambiguous, and can be interpreted by many people/audience as basically a horrible person (which is how I see him but I won't get into that this post). They just have such a hard-on for Dexter; they think he's so great and awesome and better than everyone at everything that he can basically just do - and get away with - anything he wants. And he's always in complete control of every situation.

This ending reflected that. Mr. Humble Dexter decided - on his own, while everyone was kissing his ass and giving him praises including his f***ing sister!- that maybe he's not so great after all, so he decides his punishment. Once again, he is in complete control of the situation, and he faces the consequences entirely on his own terms, because he's just such a wonderful saintly and capable man who's mature enough to make every decision about himself.

I guess the worst part is that he just gets away with it. Not only that, but it's as if the writers never even considered otherwise, because their character is just too awesome for that. Anyway, that's the impression I get.

Just finished binging on the last 5 seasons of the series.

As Agraba mentions above, I think the entire series just became worse and worse, only I think the problems began already with season 2 or 3.

I think the series had some interesting murder mysteries, great characters and a very charistmatic protagonist in Dexter. But Dexter is also the real problem with the series.

As the show goes on and on Dexter transforms from being an emotionally empty predator pretending to be human, to a deeply flawed human being, pretending he isn't one. Which bored me to death. If I hadn't been doing a Marathon I wouldn't have bothered to follow up week after week.

If you ask me, after his wife dies in season 4, the series should have shifted to a downward spiral, with Dexter becoming more and more of a monster once again. Not this bullshit family man routine.

I wanted the final season to be Dexter on the run from the police. It would have made for a more interesting show. I never bought the idea of Debra shooting LaGuarda. I've always wanted the truth to come out. That the bay harbour butcher had been working for the police all along. Seeing the casts reactions, it would have been amazing!
