When you get away from the huge, default subs, it's definitely possible to escape the Reddit Hivemind. It's just that /r/fantasy is just on the cusp of being too big for decent discussion and if you go against the Abercrombie/Sanderson/Sullivan love, you tend to get downvoted to hell.

Malaclypse, I could hug you after reading your opinion of Sanderson. I've been making the case against the Sanderson fervor over on reddit for months, now, but I collect nothing but downvotes from the community there for my opinions.
Can I ask what might be a really dumb question?
Why do you feel the need to "make the case" against anything that others are reading and enjoying?
Is that some sort of bizarre personal crusade? What sort of pleasure do you get from making said case?

It's the entitlement to being right that the best and the brightest possess.
I must, I must, I must increase my chest.
I must, I must, I must increase my chest.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I don't make the case as if Sanderson is the worst possible author out there. I think his books are highly enjoyable to read and I look forward to the rest of the work he has queued up. What gets under my skin is what gets really close to worship when Sanderson is talked about. Any honest criticism is met with disdain and the rabid fans coming down on your head for your opinions. It's at that point that I start making the case that Sanderson isn't some sort of authorial deity. I have more of an issue with the rabid members of the fanbase than I do with Sanderson or his work.

Apologies if it comes across as an entitlement thing. Hopefully, my reply to QuickTidal shines some light on my mindset.

Here is the endpaper art, and it's pretty good imo.

So is the "endpaper" what's printed inside the covers on a hardback? I hoped we would keep the those maps and tables as I figured they would make more sense as the series went on.

For a retired artists, Michael Whelan sure is doing two pieces of art for each volume!

Art's been revised. I assume because of the complainers.
Anyways, still like...like it better actually.

That's like a million times better.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
