This is my attempt to keep a roughly-chronological list of all the Dresden stories. It was originally located here, but I'm spinning it off into its own thread to make it easier to find and keep updated. Maybe a mod could sticky it, pretty please?

Anyway, most of it is taken straight from Butcher's site. Relative times for various between-novel stories taken from this ridiculously-detailed timeline on the Jim Butcher forums.

The current jim-butcher.com timeline is located here.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Is Butcher going to put all those Bigfoot stories into an omnibus or something because I really want to read about a Teenage Bigfoot.

He's said he'll eventually do a second anthology of all the shorts that didn't make it into Side Jobs. So far 7 such stories exist, and Side Jobs had 11, so I'm guessing it'll be a couple more years.

If he does 20 main series + 3 for Big Apocalyptic Trilogy + Side Jobs + one more short story collection, that'll be 25 books in the series. That's a lot of novels for a private dick with a magic stick.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

That still matches his initial statement of 20+3, eleven books of first half, Changes, eleven books of second half, 23 in total. Though if he wants to write more then that's perfectly acceptable.

Nice! Makes figuring a chronological re-read easier!

I've seen on the Jim Butcher website forum one that's got dates and ages figured, which I thought was a neat read. I don't think there's an official year statement at any point, but I think they figured that Storm Front has to take place in or close to the year 2000, and Harry is 25 at the time (and Murphy is 4 or 5 years older than him, apparently). There are lots of references to the time between novels and/or to the seasons, so then it's easy to figure out the year post-Storm Front, and it seems Butcher has been keeping mostly to the timeline of writing them, ie Cold Days should be about 12-13 years after Storm Front!

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

If you mean DOWN TOWN (Google didn't find anything on "Low Town") then that's been there since my last edit. But thanks for the pin. ^_^
