The King’s wedding reception had just begun. The King and Queen sat at the head table, looking down imperiously at those gathered around them sycophantically.

Lord Verano has not even bothered to show up. His strumpet is here, and she insists that he is simply too sickly to come to court. King Sunday, forever paranoid, does not believe her. Further, announcing such a death during such an occasion would undermine any deals made between the House of Summer and any other House at this meeting.

This was a perfect opportunity for the King to ensure that one of the Great Houses remains too weak to rise up against the crown. And, without Lord Verano, the Lady Ete had even less power at court. So King Sunday had sent a few trusted men of his guard to look into it.

Presently, the Captain of his guard walks up to him and whispers into his ear. King Sunday’s eyes widen momentarily, then a smile threatens to curve the corner of his lips. He raises his hands for silence, and when it is achieved, announces:

“It is with great displeasure that I must announce that Lord Verano has died.”

The Lady Ete lets out a short scream then faints into the arms of one of her attendants.

Barghast has been modkilled for inactivity. He was Lord Verano.

Lord Milenio had a reputation for passivity, for being quiet and reserved. Would those gathered believe him if he directed blame at this man?

“Lord Milenio,” said the King. “It has been brought to my attention that there is a plot to overthrow me, to take my throne from me, on the day of my wedding no less!”

“Surely, Your Majesty jests, or has been misinformed,” replied Milenio, his face growing pale.

“Lord Milenio, I accuse you of conspiracy, of treason! Guards!”

Milenio stood up quickly, knocking his chair to the ground. “This is preposterous!” he cried. “Millenium has been a staunch ally of the house of Sunday since the Battle of the Aorist Plains!”

“LIES!” cried King Sunday, and no one would say anything to change his mind. He was suspicious of everyone, and no one wanted to be the next to fall victim to his paranoia.

The guards dragged Milenio to the centre of the room. One of them pulled an axe off his belt while two of them kicked his legs out from under him, bending his head forward.

“You will pay for this, Sunday,” said Milenio, “mark my words!”

The axe fell, Milenio’s head tumbled across the room, landing so that his eyes stared accusingly at the King.

Sheltatha Lore is dead. He was Lord Milenio.
