I've been PMing with Tattersail following his retirement from the game, but it's been pretty much him listening to my verbal vomit in a therapy session. I felt the need to confess :D

Also @ CF: I personally don't mind pausing the game for a few days, it seems a shame for you to miss endgame. Next week is going to be crazy busy for me anyway.

Also, twelve told me that, given control, he intends to invade all your hexes whilst making the Mechanema do crazy things like remove upgrades from all their ships. He's going to blame it on sudden faulty wiring within the Mechanema.

@khell,

WHAT???? IS KHELL TELLING THE TRUTH TWELVE?????

ALLIANCE IS OFF!!!! I QUIT!!!!1

Along the lines of the above two statements: you are being paranoid. Look at the board. We have nothing notable in reach of your territories, no good means of getting there except via your starbase hex, hardly enough ships to do what we're currently doing, and you have a really strong advantage with your missile defense.

Add to that the penalty I'd take for engaging in combat and the minimal VPs we could either gain or remove from you in just 2 combat rounds...if I'm playing to win, then going after you is probably the worst possible way to do it.

If you're likewise playing to win, keeping enough resources to defend yourself while turtling and building monoliths really doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. Even if you just made 2 monoliths and finished your shrines, you'd still probably come out ahead of whatever we manage to do here in the next while.

EDIT @ twelve

I don't really quit the alliance.

I read somewhere that machines are supposed to exterminate men or something, and that a douchey computer named skynet is supposed to be involved...but thats ANCIENT history...right?

Well, I've worked out my plan for the rest of the game, and, just like all the greatest dictators, I intend to stick to it no matter what events scream at me to change something.

Yeah I would feel better about putting the game on hold until you came back than finishing without you. Even though I would be the one pulling the strings of the mega galactic alliance. A one week break isn't going to kill us. Well maybe Tats but he has various other addictions that could ease his suffering.

And Khell is right on one point. I would probably totally disregard what we planned and do something insanely crazy. I haven't been thinking endgame much at all. I've just been thinking how can I wreck maximum damage on everyone else and be damned about if I have enough points to win or not.

And let's face it. If I had more experience in thinking VPs than military advantage I would have had a solo victory wrapped up ages ago.

I'm happy with a break.

Also it was nice knowing you Khell, 6VP tiles tend to cause a dogpile, if anyone takes it that is a 13 VP swing... especially when CF and twelve can put at least one unit in that system, before the game goes round again.

And clearly IH is only saying that in an effort to get twelve and CF off his back. And here I was seriously considering giving you assistance!

I am okay with taking a bit of a break, but I really want this to be done before Mafia 100 starts! (hint Morgy hint)

re: talking off-thread - sorry, I didn't even really think that it would be a possible issue. It's not even really that me and IH felt the need to talk in secret, it's that we didn't want to talk openly before other people do their moves. Unlike twelve and CF, IH and me are rarely on at the same time so it would've turned into a lot of me saying "Wait before you take your turn so we can talk, IH!", then EM and Khell going and IH waiting a while to talk to me before going. We can stop if you want though (actually neither of us has said anything since Friday, I think).

I will UPGRADE a plasma missile part onto my cruiser over the hull, and a gluon computer onto my orbitals over the ion turret

I think she meant taking over CF as a seasoned Pro, if Cf would not object to that, that is :D

Upgrade starbase - 2 positron computers and a flux missile over 1 of the hull slots.

Should have been a bit more specific. Positron computer over existing computer, flux missile over one of the hulls, positron computer in the empty slot.

I am busy with manual labour today (eeeeek my delicate desk job hands!!!) and so will only be able to check in sporadically.

Looks like everyone is fine with a short break then?

I can't say I'm sad you all decided to wait. I'd much rather play out the game. Thanks!
