So I worked out with your 12 Science next go you can max out your middle track, buying gauss shield, fusion source and tachyon drive.

That would give you extra VP's.

Currently your combined hexes give you 12 VP's. Not icnluding Shrines or anything.

If you had Zeta rather than Sigma you'd gain 1 VP. Or if you had both you'd gain 2 VP.

Influence Epsilon and Aurigai and you have another 2VP's

Finally see what EM would do if you wanted his homeworld hex, would he give you less resistance than say Twelve and CF? Then you come in a different way and take that for the extra VP's.

Or build 2 shrines for an extra 2 VPs, research orbitals next round and drop as much materials as you can into monoliths. You'd get at least 9, maybe 12 additional VPs through that if you really commit.

I meant to say monoliths...sorry. Still early.

Thing is, he has a pretty effective defense against twelve and I with his -2 missile shields, and we stand to gain so little from attacking that we're better hedging our bets on the fight against IH and D'rek. Us "sweeping in" would require that we pretty much abandon all else in the West because even with our good economy, we're still limited in the actions we can take in a phase.

Wondering what you'd like to do about my planned absence next week. I think I mentioned it WAAAAAAY upthread and figured the game would be done by now, but with it entering its final exciting phases I figured you'd like a chance to re-evaluate before I drop off the face of the planet. I'll be in a backcountry area with zero access to anything except food and liquor (that I bring with me).


I'll be around until the end of the workday tomorrow and if you're all happy to take a break until next thursday then great. If you'd rather not pause the game then I'm 100% fine with that too and will hand over control of the mechanema collective to my friend and ally, Twelve.


If option number 2 is preferred, would it be ok for me to send Twelve a quick private communiqué outlining my general plans for this phase and next? We've been keeping it pretty open so far, but in this special instance I think it would be appropriate for me to convey the gist of my strategy without laying it bare for the rest.

Sure. There's nothing in the rules against whispering in the player next to you's ear. IH and I have done some off-thread chatting, didn't think it would even be an issue.

Did you read earlier in the game? There was an ancient on Vega, I hadn't went into any battles or anything at that time but wanted to plants in that hex. I went for it, ended up passing and then D'rek jumps in after me and ends up winning the hex.

Later on I was gearing up for war, I could have went for her in a big way but I wanted to research instead, I asked her if she would leave me alone and she said she would. At the time, Twelve and Cf were attacking her and IH so I thought she'd hold true to her word. I used my goes to influence some hexes and build orbitals. Next thing I know, she is attacking me again. She also had Neutron Bombs, so it was either surrender my homeworld and another hex which was 5 VP in total or go balls out and die but have fun doing it.

I ended up winning both my battles, the highlight being my lone interceptor against her super cruiser. I had better initiative but no defense, I had to roll a 6 to win. I rolled a 6.

Well jees. I felt bad about all the back and forth with both Tats and CF in the earlier rounds that I basically told them to keep it on thread as this was a table top game. Otherwise I wouldn't have been saying most of what I have on thread and kept it between just us.

Yeah my suicide last game probably could have been survived if I had actually won one of my battles but yours was a beauty to see. Too bad D'rek still ended up with your homewold. Going near last almost every round certainly has it's disadvantages.

I say going first early on is great as you get the research but later on you want to go last so you know what the bastards are trying to do. (language to be excused due to my almost finishing Deadhouse Gates, fucking awesome)

That was Twelve's stance when I PM'd him early-on about a possible alliance, and he told me as much. I agree with it, though it was never officially stated as a rule.

It added a really cool depth to the strategy IMO, trying to get Twelve to coordinate with me and vice versa without either of us giving too much away to the other players. There were all kinds of things I had all written out and ready to post, and then deleted because I didn't want to tip my hand.
