I am fine with rewinding time, so Twelve's action is changed.

For the record, I don't think point defence is OP. It's never guaranteed to come out of the bag at all, and if it does there is only 1 of them. In our game of 7 players, only 3 players at most can have distortion shield or point defense cannon, leaving Twelve with 3 other people to use mass missile tactics on. If we were more experienced players, I suspect we'd have waited longer to form alliances and so Twelve would likely then have chosen to ally himself in such a way that he had someone he could devote himself to attacking who did not have an anti-missile tech.

Furthermore, research/turn order is a big part of strategy. IH has been positioning himself to be among the first to go in several rounds, and has benefitted by getting the first shot at researching rare techs like neutron absorbers and point defense before others. Twelve has been going for lots of money and taking many, many actions each round - the upside of that being he can do a lot and field giant fleets with many upgrades like this, but the downside is he gives his opponents chances to research counter-techs.

I shall take your silence as an affirmative.

No, I'm actually not understanding how to play this game and fucking up myself. I wanted to regroup by taking another system with income this turn and hopefully attacking Beta Leonis next turn. but now I'm not so sure I can take it out of the Mechanem grasp.

Advice anyone? I feel screwed.

Well....you are allied and Khell is proposing some compelling defense strategies for you that (at the very least) will discourage me from attacking you (for fear of breaking my diplo relations). That gives you ample opportunity to build up and make a play a couple of rounds down the road.

You have strength in your alliance and the fact that Khell has me by the nuts to a certain extent.

Don't despair. We got pretty lucky in Beta Leonis, really, and it's my first time playing too! I had shit luck with finding systems early on but played to my strengths in cheap numerous ships. I'd sit back, figure out the best way to accumulate extra VPs (which is really how you win the game) and slap tech on your ships like crazy for a push at the end.

There's not much for you to research - the only reasonable better part available is phase shields but you don't have enough energy to put them on your ships. You really want advanced economy, but it's not available.

Your materials production is really good though. Just keep up the pressure on your border, get more materials next turn and try to coordinate something nasty with Khell, I'd say.

1. Build some more ships
2. Develop the Warp Portal
3. Warp into Twelve's backside
4. REVENGE ON THE NOVAS!!!!

I pass then as it seems I can do nothing this turn.

If you can move one tiny ship into my system it would be cool Khell. I think I have something figured out.

Yeah, the only resource you have a slight abundance of at the moment is science, so research is a possibility, but there's not much that's attractive for you to research this round. Conserve your resources for the next round, and hope that advanced economy comes up? You need to build up your materials supply so that you can rebuild your fleet.

It would have been better for you had twelve and CF committed to attacking IH, but now that they've pulled out of that, it's more difficult.

You could try to build a warp portal and attack through a back door as D'rek says, and if I follow you I can be of use against twelve - whereas I can't help you with Beta Leonis until you push CF's ships out of there.

Alternatively, I can guard your borders with my ships while your own fleet makes their way into twelve's territory (or IH's) through a warp portal.

Why not? out of material , not enough science to research anything. might as well save money....

True, but his ships are pretty far away from his warp portal, and the GC is worth more points and resources. Would he really move ships away from the GC, exposing it, enough to fight you at his back door and then fly through it, too? Of course CF would probably try and hit your main region once you moved ships through. You need to dump more cheap starbases or interceptors in Mu Herculis to block them, and fly the heavy stuff through the warp portal, so you get to grab new systems while delaying any invasion of your own.

That's work really good, too - EM attacks twelve and if CF wants to capitalize on it by hitting EM he has to fight Khell's ship(s) and take the traitor card. Nasty!

Ah yes, the back-door entry. That's partially why I decided it would be a good idea to enter diplo with Khell, to prevent that sort of thing.

He is deterred if I manage to get a ship into that sector first

But then again, minus 2Vps ain't the end of the world to be perfectly honest. If it means breaking diplomatic relations to halt an invasion then I'm not going to hesitate.

Or, as I proposed, let me guard those borders against CF, and then he can fly EVERYTHING through against twelve.

To be honest, twelve and CF remind me of France and her vassals in EU3 right now. big blue blob getting bigger and eating up everything in it's path.

Beta Leonis might have been aquitaine.(however that is spelled)
