Ah, I thought the influencing disco hex was just because you wanted to get the science hex back, and would do another influence to take the science hex and remove the disco hex. Hmm...

I bought advanced mining the other round so I could use the one on vega, then you took vega. The only reason I wanted vega, which is now the reason I want the ancient tile.

So you're going to Build (upkeep: -10), then Move (-13) ships into the ancient hex. Then assuming you beat it, you'll influence it (-17), and remove discs from the disco hex (-13) and the ancient hex itself (-10). So the net result being that you'll get one discover tile, one reputation tile, and have a bunch of ships on the border with me with nothing to defend...

Yeah I can build an orbital to create money and science but I cannot create Materials. So I think it is worth it. I may save influencing it until the next phase as I won't be doing much else other than research and build from then on.

See, you say that but at the same time you are saying you want to put a bunch of ships right on my outer border at the same time that twelve is striking on the other side. It's pretty hard to believe that your ships aren't going to decide to move into my hexes next round...

You already have a border with me with a ship in it, why not move two cruisers in their and show bad will? I do not have the military might to strike you down. Ih and Twelve are going to attack you and IH. I just want the discovery tile, rep points and materials that the hex gives me. You've already had your fair share of ancient hexes haven't you?

And if you did take the hex with the ancient then you'd still have two borders to me anyway. This way my ships would be there and your ships will be the other side. So if I did go through your back door you coross over to mine, you have more money and materials than me so you would always win.

Question about point defense: Does firing cannons at missiles preclude firing at ships for the first round of engagement?

I don't exactly see how he can take out 16 missiles. He has 5 ion cannons total in that hex. Is he really allowed to fire at every single missile??? That seems wildly overpowered, but if that's the rules then so be it.
I have to make a build and upgrade action this turn to keep my fleet up and in good fighting condition. That means I can afford to contribute:
- 1 move of two interceptors or 1 move of a single cruiser (with upgraded flux missiles + plasma cannon) for direct support in your battle.
- A move of 2 interceptors, or 1 interceptor + 1 cruiser to the GC for defense.
- Forget about upgrading for the time being and contribute 4 interceptors to the fight....even though it leaves us pretty weak on the Eastern front.
What do you think would be the more effective use of material? Are you planning on pulling your dread From Beta Leonis? Building more ships of your own?

Tattersail, I think you need to call D'rek's bluff. She's trying to scare you from taking that ancient hex, but very soon she'll be too preoccupied with twelve and CF to concentrate on stopping you from taking it. It's time for you to call the shots against her for a change - take advantage of the impending chaos!

This round he can't take out that many missles as he only has currently 5 ion cannons. But when he gets antimatter cannons with the antimatter splitter 4 antimatter cannons equals 16 ion cannons if there are that many targets to shoot at. That is why if we can take out his Dreads now before he can upgrade them then we can keep the number of available ships for him to a low enough level that hopefully I will still allow me to have the military edge against him.
I think I have enough firepower to take out whatever he can put into that hex with what I'm sending in. I would feel better with something with cannons just in case for two reasons. One as a safety precaution as I can't retreat against IH and two I need something that can clear his population as my neutron bombs won't work. I can keep one ion cannon on each of my dreads but then I don't think I will be able to take him down. I could build a couple of cruisers and send them in instead of 3 more interceptors for more cannon back up but they don't have good enough upgrades.
And the enough firepower includes moving both of my dreads into the fight as well.

So if you can spare one move to move even just one interceptor that would be all I need I think to tip the edge in my favor.

Besides, I'm right in that she IS trying to get you to leave off that hex because she wants to save it for a time that she can concentrate on it - which, judging from twelve's and CF's plans, may not be in the immediate future.

RE missile defense: I didn't understand about the cannon situation before. I get it now. The way your post was written it kinda looked like he could take out 16 missiles this turn (hence my confusion).
