Well the rho indi look like they are designed for a fast strike to eliminate someone early on, and lyra don't have particularly good early strength with not having star bases.
But don't worry. Me and you are going to be the best of friends!

So who did tats send his provisonal to? He said he was going to be gone for a while.
Nevermind. I noticed the time stamp was 2 hours 30 minutes ago and he said he would be gone 3. I think I can wait another half hour or so to pick over whatevers left.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I gotta run home and take care of the wifey/baby. If y'all are waiting too long for me just pick a race out of the hat for me to get things rolling. Will try to keep in touch when I get home.

I'd be very surprised of you ended up with any reasonable choice other than terrans.

Yes, but you forget we have meditation...or something. And as long as I remain utterly confused and perplexed by everything in this game, I will never even get to the worrying stage.

Khell, you are a super turtle. You just want to have an area with 9 planets (not hexes, just planets) and then you want to wall it off completely. Zero full wormholes in/out of that area so no one can touch you, and as few half-wormhole borders as possible. Then get the wormhole generators bonus from your shrines so you can get through your walls in a couple places but others can't get in.
The big thing for you is building your shrines. Since you can only build one per round, there are 9 and there are 9 rounds, AND you have to build them during the upkeep phase, it's critical for you not to get too disrupted by another player that you are unable to build a shrine on any round - either because you dont have the resources to do so or because you have no free planets to build them on. So minimizing anyone's ability to mess you up is key, I think. If you want to make diplomatic relations, get a hex or two outside your super-walls and use those for relations/expansion but keep all the shrines inside.

No rush. I can't scan the expansion homeworld hexes in until I get home tonight, anyways, so we can't get stated until that.

D'rek, you're totally ruining my "bumbling doesn't know what he's doing so he's entirely harmless" approach!

Also also, I know this game is about accumulating victory points rather than outright universe domination...but I kinda wish we could do a 'there can be only one' type game. But that's just my ultra-competitive, must-annihilate-everyone mentality (And yes, I'm aware that I've chosen entirely the wrong species for that mentality!).

I'm sure you could set that sort of thing up - easy way would be to just have unlimited rounds. The only problem might be that everyone would approach it more defensively and you might get to a point where everyone has enough new materials each round to build all their ships anew - and if the fleets are all maxed out in capabilities that they just eliminate each other and conquer nothing every round, it could go on for a long time
So, you're going to mod game #3 after this then with some house rules?

How you want to orient your wormholes, based on the map in the 8th or so post. Your homeworld's wormholes is like all the others (some are shown in the races reference), and at least one wormhole must point towards the ring II hexes.

How do you want your system to be aligned. One Wormhole turned towards the center or two, I think. Check the race profile on the first page. I think the homeworld picture is posted. Once you have it oriented I'll pick my faction.
Edit: And I crosspost.

Ok, cool. So CF can pick either Terran, Eridani, Mechanema or Descendants.
I wonder if Descendants would be good in a 7-player game? There's lots of hexes, so lots of ancients, but I guess if you were unlucky they might all be really far and hard to defend. The draw-two-hexes-pick-one helps with that a ton, but it could still be tricky. Then again Descendants are always like that. Plus using ancient hexes to race to Tier 1 might be even more advantageous with us starting in Tier 3.
Eridani could be great since their extra money at the start lets you explore to the center faster and/or wall off a side or two. Everyone getting an extra cube off (probably money in most cases) might undo the benefit of that, though, not sure.
And Mechanema are just awful, awful, awful as alawys. Definitely CF should not pick them no matter what (I just don't want to have to work around a white, a grey and a black coloured-player for colour-coding fonts )
