I wouldn't start with King Rat. It's good but it's also arguably his worst. And Book of Words was basic basic fantasy. And, if I'm remembering correctly, almost the same as Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, just not as good. Also, wouldn't start with Song of Arbonne. I'd suggest either the Sarantine Mosaic or the Lions of Al'Rassan first. Otherwise, it looks like a great 2013.

Just my $0.02, but if you read LIONS and SARANTINE first, most of his other stuff just isn't as good.

For Kay, I'll agree with Abyss, except that I found the The Sarantine Mosaic better than Lions (but about the same level). I'll just repeat a former question, for Moorcock, which books are worthwhile / where to start?

I'm working on a read-through of most of Moorcock's books right now.

Start with the Elric books - http://www.goodreads...ror-of-melnibon - but be aware that you can kind of jump to the other books within that "universe" when you get your fill of Elric.

I jumped over to the Corum/Swords books after the Tanelorn rescue book and have finished the Knight of Swords and the Queen of Swords.

They're kind of cool to read, but very much emphasize the loneliness of the protagonist (Elric/Corum) as the protagonist fights against Evil/Chaos, but often loses his companions/friends/family along the way. So, the books are best read with breaks in between to go do other things and read other books to cheer you up again.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I finished Black Company and I did look at A Suitable Boy on my shelf, perhaps I even caressed it, but I didn't read it. The other two things I didn't even come close to doing.

This year I'll make it easy: I'll read the Broken Empire (which I've already started) and the Joe Abercrombie one-off books. And I think the Scott Lynch books too. Also Skin Game. Everything else I'll consider bonus points.

Well. I got Pinto's trilogy down, as well as the second Eternal Champion omnibus (Von Bek).

I'm still working my way up to Donaldson's Last Chronicles. And more Moorcock is definitely a priority. I just picked up GRRM's ADWD, so I'd like to get to that and AFFC. Glen Cook's entire Dread Empire as well. Of the stuff I missed from last year's list (I'm a poet and I know it) I think the Sullivan books get top priority, but then again we'll see how I feel when the time comes. I have probably 30-40 completed (or close to completed) series sitting on my shelves waiting for me to get to them.

Had a damn good year; read 21 books and listened to 65 more. Only a couple were forgettable but thanks to this forum, most were superb.

Went through everything except my malazan re-read which failed catastrophically after Deadhousegate. Still got well over my expected 100 books read and listened to.

The books just don't snag me as I'd hoped they would. Don't know how my ex fell so deeply in love with these books), and the last two Stones of Power books (which were pushed to January and Feb 2014).

I have to read TtH and on before Skin Game and Words of Radiance come out. After that I will start on Thomas Covenant.
I just remembered Wild Cards. I picked up the first one last book run.

The Dagger and the Coin is a more traditional setting and story compared to The Long Price. I've read the first two (The Dragon's Path and The King's Blood) - I thought book 1 was good and book 2 ridiculously so - and certainly plan on reading on. Well worth the read, I think. Then again, if you didn't like the Long Price, you might not care for this one either

Dagger and Coin is excellent and I had a hard time with Shadow in Summer when I tried it. It might be a traditional setting but its not particularly traditional in most other respects. Eagerly awaiting the fourth one currently.

Dagger and Coin is way better then the long prince.. Asian settings isn't my cup of tea.
