Hi all,
I'm Unexist, an Italian fan of the wonderful world of Malazan. Unfortunately here in Italy we haven't a Malazan community (what a shame, I know!) so I Googled and find this helpful forum.

Actually I'm reading the second book of the series, Deadhouse Gates, and find it better than the first.
Erikson is a genius, no doubt, and I'm eager for discover the secret of this world. The countless secrets of the world, better to say

Two quick question:

- Has the Malazan world a name?

- The reading order. I find this thread with this reading order:

It's right? And when I can reading Orb, Sceptre, Throne? After tCG?

The Malazan world is informally referred to as Wu, though you'll never see that written in the books—it's a kind of joke name that came from SE and stuck. I'm sure someone can point you in the direction of the real story behind it. There's a thread about it somewhere.

I can't see anything wrong with your chosen reading order. I assume you're reading them in English? I was under the impression that only a few of the books had been translated into Italian...

Isn't Wu a mythological continent-island like Atlantis? Don't sure where I heard that name before...

Yes, this time I begin reading the series in english, because in italian the book are too expensive and stopped at the seventh (Reaper's Gale).

Thanks! Your English is good, though, there's nothing that stands out as being wrong or bad in any of your posts.

I think there is a reference to Wu (a person?) somewhere in one of the books but I think it's just a coincidence. The reason we all call the world Wu is because of some inside joke between SE and ICE, I think. Something like that.

That looks like a pretty good reading order. While some say you can read Orb, Sceptre, Throne right after Toll the Hounds, I'm a strong proponent of not reading it until after Dust of Dreams.

Also, if you can't wait to pick up The Crippled God after you finish Dust of Dreams, Stonewielder can always wait until afterward.

Finally, concerning Forge of Darkness: read it after Orb, Sceptre, Throne, but before Blood and Bone.

Wert's list has 1 major spoiler problem, but overall is pretty good. It doesn't give you a lot of choice, though where some exists. If you want to, follow Wert's list but switch RG with RotCG (RotCG actually spoils at least one major part of RG).

Ok, RG before RotCG.

I don't know two books in the picture you posted: Assail, I believe, it's the next ICE novel.
But what about Goats of Glory? Never heard this novel/novella before...

PS: great work the picture, explain a lot for newbie like me.

Well you have about 8 and a half books (+a ton of bonus stuff) of awesomeness ahead of you, you lucky bastard.

By the way, is this your first english read? Gotm was for me and i remember struggling quite a lot at first (Oh, that Kruppe chapter).
If you have any other quetion, just ask!!





Isn't that Wertzone map a little too... "compressed"? I mean, in Drek's representation the continents are more spaced out (and i kind of agree with her).

Hello Tehol, nice to see another italian fan of Erikson-ICE

I read a lot of english books before Malazan, knowing that Erikson stuff are... challenging (dozens characters, a huge world, philosophy etc etc).
Started reading in english 6 months ago with Harry Potter Series, Joe Abercombie First Law, Patrick Rothfuss, Tolkien and others... And finally picked up Malazan and enjoyed it. Not so diffucult reading Erikson, for example Guy Gavriel Kay is far more complicated.
