American Wasteland is a trilogy of novellas and one short story, by Nick Cole set 40 years after nuclear war, for $0.99. I have read the first novella and half the second and I am really enjoying it.

Myke Cole's excellent Gemini Cell is 2.99$ on Kindle (US only).

I thought Control Point was kind of meh. Does it get better?

The second trilogy is better than the first one, so I would say yes.

Cole himself recommends starting with the second trilogy because (a) it's a prequel series, and (b) he was a much better writer by that time. (Control Point was his first book.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

Audible.com sale time.
Recent 'Daily Deal's are back and there is a LOT of good stuff for approx $5.95 usd each...

Notable imnsho:

Gaiman NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Carey GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS
Wecker THE GOLEM AND THE JINNI
Roberts YEAR ONE
North FIRST FIFTEEN LIVES OF HARRY AUGUST
Rothfuss NAME OF THE WIND
Tchaikovsky CHILDREN OF TIME
Clines THE FOLD
Grimwood REPLAY
Hawkins THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR
Shanon PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE

...seriously, a few of these are utterly worthwhile at that price if you've even contemplated the earbooks. Can easily get your free trial membership, buy whatever, use your free credit, and bail out, keep the earbooks. And yes, you can easily dl and convert them to normal mp3s so you're not stuck with audible if that's your thing.

... at a minimum if you have not yet read but considered NORSE or MOUNT CHAR at any point, this is a steal. Both are brilliant books with great narrators.

I very enjoyed it. It is standalone, no follow up, no cliffhanger.

There is a prequel (written after / set before) story THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE. Worthwhile if you enjoy GIRL but by no means necessary.
