I've got the Cradle series and the Sea and Shadow stuff. I could only find book 1 of The Last Horizon and that's all I got.

LAST HORIZON is either one and done or book 2 isn't written yet.

Not written yet, it's his post-Cradle new series.

Ok help me out here QT because i now have all of the freebies.... CRADLE has received enough praise that i'm likely to grab the earbooks. Are the Sea/Shadow and Traveller's Gate series worthwhile?

I like Sea/Shadow (not as good as Cradle, but still worthwhile in a pulpy way; I've only read two of the books in that series so far), but I can't say anything about Travellers Gate...it was his first series and I've heard it's good, but I can't comment as I've not Read it yet.

All good, tnx.
As my various TRP's are epic in scope and depth, i think i'm just going to grab the CRADLE earbooks.

LAST HORIZON is is space/sci-fi one and it's his most recent book. I have no idea if it's good or not.

Here's your link to the TRAVELLERS GATEtrilogy in case you missed it.

That's just $18 USD. Be aware that the ebooks aren't through Humble, you'll have to redeem them at Kobo's website. From your Kobo account, you can download the ebook files, which require Adobe Digital Editions to open. Once opened in Adobe, they autoconvert to EPUBs. Locate the EPUBs on your computer and you can do whatever you want with them. (In my case, load them into Calibre and convert them to Kindle format.)

Found this out the fucking HARD way last night. Ordered the full one because while I own about 75% of these books in old MMPB's, the type is smaller and having them all on my eReader for $30CDN seemed like a steal....and then I spent about an hour ANGRILY trying whatever shitfuck roundabout way to get them from the Kobo download to try to get them onto my kindle, and ended up having little to no success, so I stopped trying and cursed out Humble Bundle aloud.

And guess what? The download function on the Kobo site was essentially giving me some 1k URLLink.acsm file over and over again that did fuck all....I have utterly no idea how to get these books onto my kindle...none of the "this is how you do this" instructions worked for me.

This is basically my last Humble Bundle as a result. I'm not willing to being swindled into having to go through the Kobo site/make an account ect. to get the thing I paid money for onto the device I want to read it on. Would have been nice if they'd TOLD people up front that they'd clearly sold out partnered with Kobo making it infinitely harder to get it to non-Kobo stuff.

EDIT: turns out that using Calibre as Chris suggested is the easiest way to do it, but it's still a LONG pain in the ass way to do this...my gods, what a nightmare for fulfillment.

I just found this out downloading my own bundle. Kobo requires that you download and install Adobe Digital Editions to read the file. It does actually tell you that in the download pop-up. It's the same software Google Books purchases use. The .ascm file opens in Adobe Digital Editions and creates an .epub. Right-click the book in Adobe and select "View File in Windows Explorer" (or whatever), then load that into Calibre.

It's actually there, in the "Bundle Details" section. I checked that out because none of the books would say what format they were in, which got me suspicious. Fortunately, I already had a Kobo account and Adobe installed, so the whole process was painless easy for me.

Yeah, I didn't realize about the Adobe Digital Editions bit, that does add some complexity, which I'll edit into my previous post.

I will say: the best way to approach Humble Bundles these days--particularly for books, and ESPECIALLY for comic books--is to purchase the $1 tier and see if the formats/quality/etc. is up to your standards. If so, you can increase your dollar amount to reach the tier you'd like. And if not, you've only lost out on a dollar, most of which is going to a good charity.

This is surprising to me based on my exp w Humble. The closest i've come to the level of hassle upthread was the WarHammer Earbook bundle a few years ago, and that was more my attemts to dl everything at once rather than format.

Anyhoot, i appreciate the head's up since i was - still am - debating buying this one. I've only read one book on there, the first Gryphon book, and i remember enjoying it, but adding ebooks to the endless-eTRP is a bit of a lost cause because i just do not get around to reading them.

It's worth it still, it's just an absolutely pain in the buttinsky to get the books onto your e-Reader if it's not a Kobo...you have to go through the Kobo app initially (annoying), and then hit download on EACH of the 27 files...yeah you can't batch it....it's click on download for each individual file (all of which will download as a generic URLLINK.ASCM document with a number on the end and not the book titles), and then you download and use Adobe Digital Editions app (don't need an account, you can just push them onto it without one when it asks) and then you can batch convert the whole lot to ePub and shift them where you want, they will have the titles at this point...which for me was using my laptop to transfer them via cable to my kindle. BE WARY though, if you fuck it up at any point after the download to the Kobo app...those ASCM files know you've downloaded them and will only do that once...one of the books in my grouping was ungettable because I'd already used an internet based program to convert it to ePub...they REALLY have this shit down under lock and key while 100% claiming "can be read on any device"....fucking shitty business practice if you ask me.

HUGE pain in the ass and the shadiness of the action of burying the "kobo" in the fine print of a 3rd paragraph on the bundle info while also have a header that says "read on any device"....which is super misleading...means I'll be really hard pressed to ever use Humble Bundle again.

...but yeah, for $30CDN it's still 27 whole ass books....still very worth it, grumbling and all.

Big audible sale going on again. Tons of good stuff under the usual price of a credit.

Just to add that this sale is HUGE... some are borderline same price as a credit, no deal there, but by example i just picked up West's HOUSE WAR books for under $5/each, pre-ordered Will Wight's CRADLE book 12 for $9, Tchaikovsky's CITY OF LAST CHANCES for $5 and change, Wells' RAKSURA series for under $3/book.

Most of the Malazan books are on there for $5 or so, ACTS OF CAINE are about $7 each....

If you're an earbook reader this is a VERY good sale. If you want to try earbooks out without a major $ commitment, even better.
