Damn. Reading this post makes me want to start yet another reread of MBotF, but I have so many books I haven't read once yet on my kindle that I really want to get to... A pox on this series for being so good! :)

It's still one of my favourite moments in the series (even though it's so horrendously emotional) and it did take me quite a while to get over it. Interestingly any time any of the involved characters were mentioned again Duiker's line of "Thrice denied, High Fist" always came back to me. Not sure why that one of all of the scene.

I actually read it on my Youtube channel (which I really need to update) and I had to read it through to myself four or five times before recording it so I didn't start balling on camera! :) My voice is still going by the end though.

sorry, added spoilers. But is he important for any storyline?

I think when Worry meant spoilers, he meant for what you say in your last paragraph, below where you've put the spoiler tags. If someone hasn't read past DG, they wouldn't for sure know those things, so I'd put that in spoiler tags as well.

No he said "other series' books" but you are still right that mentioning what happens in the future of the series is indeed a spoiler and should be deleted or spoilered. And Stormcat is right on the money Lady F; you need to read and find out.

The idea that some deaths are not final is a point of contention for some readers of the series. And I agree that it does seem to spoil the effect of a "heroic death". However there's another way to look at this, and that's from a historic POV. Many civilizations have beliefs concerning reincarnation, and although there is much reason to believe that it doesn't exist in our world, in SE's world, well, it does. And its explained pretty nicely too. And even the effect with wich its employed specifically with Coltaine, I think is one of the more brilliant parts of that scene. We have been set up for it from the beginning, told that for Wickans, upon their death a crow comes to take its soul and plant it into the body of an unborn child. And when Sormo Enath dies, the butterflies take his soul and not the crow(s), and so his death is final. When Coltaine is dying, thousands of crows come to take his soul because of his greatness. And Korbolo Doms mages and fighters know why they are arriving and they attempt to kill them so his death is also final. Alas, they have failed, and in what is considered one of the more tragic scenes in the series has an element of good to it, and that makes it easier for us as readers. I can't imagine how devastating it would be for some readers had the crows not been able to carry off his soul. Inasmuch, the blow is softened, but then again, there is always Squint.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

The death of Coltaine still sends shivers down my back even after a few months have passed since I finished the book.

When you think that Coltaine has been lost then you start seeing the dust rising from the city walls you start to think "YES HE IS GOING TO MAKE IT!!!"

Never has a book got me so emotionally tied to a character that I have had to put the book down and walk away from it, totally drained.

Actually stopped reading at one point and started ranting at my girlfriend about the b@stard's hiding behind the city's walls I actually asked her why won't they go out to help!!!! I wanted to climb o to the book and throttle the city leaders 😁

Yah, it's pretty big-time, probably where a lot of readers fall in love. You should edit the thread title to something a bit less final though if you catch my drift.

NO!! that is far to suggestive. i dont know f'sho (not read further than DG) but that bit with Gesler and Coltaine punching him in the face and Nether is all like : Shit!! that bros basically an ascendant...but... Coltaine?.

Anything is possible now i S'pose
