We are driving down to Victoria at the end of the fortnight and staying there for 3.5 weeks before driving back. It's a 20 hour drive. Ripley travels fairly well but we've never driven for anywhere near that long. If it was just Matador and I we would drive it in one go but that doesn't feel plausible.

I'm looking for suggestions on ways to keep Rip entertained while we are driving. We plan to stop regularly at parks and rest stops etc but whilst he is in the car I need to keep him interested in stuff. He's an extremely kinaesthetic kid so I'm not looking for to the drives much. Also, Matador is the only driver so I'll be the one trying to keep him amused.

So far I have his LeapReader books, a clip light and glow-in-the-dark shapes for night driving, and a magnet activity book (that's at most an hour of entertainment ;) ). We also have his DS, Leappad, and Ipad but I'd prefer to hold off on using them as much as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We had a 6 hour drive with around 90mins of stoppages in summer. Old MacDonald had a sloth felt like rock bottom. No advice other than a large repertoire of songs.

We always have music in the car as Rip loves to sing. Thankfully, he only likes listening to hard rock and the occassional power ballad. XD

If you play nursery rhymes or sing them to him he just looks at you like you're weird.

Good article on the weirdly corrupted world of Youtube kids videos. The automation as well as the deliberate creations. It's a little lengthy but well worth reading for parents and curious non-parents, and easy to skim section to section.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
