Yeah, it's pretty much a rock. Semi-volcanic/Grand Canyon-esque, mostly. (And it's "Moraband", just FYI, not Morriban.)
It was just a specualtion.
Jeez.

Soo...assuming you're right, the emitters are totally useless? Good argument.
I'm pretty sure there are instances where it happens, it's just not common. However, that doesn't really undermine my point - he's essentially protecting against something that almost never happens. So what's the point?

I seem to recall mentioning that I thought they might be exhaust valves for an overloaded crystal inside (explaining the ragged edge of the blade)...and not emitters at all upthread.
*shrug* possible. Still results in poorly positioned extra blades, though. At least angle them upwards? I dunno.
I love that this debate can happen, though. XD Much fun.

You might be better off finding a series with a naming scheme that isn't Darth Badthing then.
Hence the disclaimer. I just think it would be an interesting change to go a little off formula there. Though actually, as a trope, sinister and intimidating titles (or a particular naming scheme) as a means of signalling villainy is perhaps more sensible than poor posture being used for the same purpose.

So then if they get cut off (but you pull the sword away fast enough right after to not get your hand cut off) the crystal overloads and the lightsabre explodes in your hand?
If they really wanted to have a lightsabre with crossguards that can catch other lightsabres, they could have done it. Something like 4-6 little emitters sticking out of the handle upwards at only about 30 degrees away from the angle of the main blade, so that another lightsabre can get stuck in the 'V' between the main blade and an emitter.
OTOH, look how much this has everybody talking! A whole year before the movie even comes out!
Though my pet theory/wish-that-won't-come-true is that the cross-guard sabre really is just as stupid as everyone is saying, and that guy with it gets killed for the exact reasons up-thread in the first 5 minutes of the movie

I agree with Briar King. The name of the world is Korriban and it will remain so for me forever!

Although to be fair their are several alloys that can blocka a lightsabre no? Or have they all been destroyed in the great cannon purge. Still I would opt for something closer to a rapier basket hilt in that case than a T-Hilt. Hell Im pretty sure Id fight more akin to a fencer than a knight with a light sabre especially against other jedi/sith

The most resistant that I know of is cortosis - and that, unfortunately, interferes with lightsaber mechanics (depending on the source, it can temporarily shut down the saber, or it can just block it - though if it only blocks it, AGAIN, why not just make the entire hilt out of cortosis).
Otherwise you've got Mandalorian Iron, which is, at best, a couple of hits, IIRC, and not sustained contact.

Great article. Am glad that both EpVII and REBELS are paying homage to Ralph's work!

Stephen Colbert lays the smack down! Sorry Silencer, he kind of blows your complaint about the Sith saber out the window with a pretty simple and believable explanation.

I'm with Brujah.
We are all going to sit down and break this down to little points that don't make sense, be better, improve upon, include, logic gaps, etc.
When it comes out I am going to love it cause its fing STAR WARS <7>. I went to opening day and enjoyed 1-3. There was a point I thought we would never get to see another one. Psyched even if I give it hard time...before and after.

Rofl, gotta love Colbert.
Nope, we already dealt with that idea up thread - it doesn't hold water because the side emitters are still required to contain focusing crystals and the like, so once they get cut off, no more saber. *shrug*
I like his presentation, though.
(And he lampshades the other obvious fatal flaw his own theory has, too, with the blade delay XD)
Look, I know it's pedantic, and honestly it doesn't bother me that much, but there is established lore on how this stuff works. Those emitters are either pointless, a liability, or a break in the lore. And that's ok. As long as it's explained and adds value to the movie, no one will actually care.
Until such time as that's proven to be the case, though, that saber design is a bit silly and impractical. Willing suspension of disbelief needs to be reestablished. XD

Maybe the sides are for cutting toast?
Dunno if it was mentioned but why do they appear 1 sec after the main blade? It is for effect when starting fighting someone? The whole thing looks kinda cheesy.

Nonsense. The three focusing crystals don't have to be outside the hilt in the wings. They can all be in the same area (in a cluster) since the beam passes through them, there is no reason they all can't be located in the main hilt. The only difference would be that instead of one channel, there are three. What is not to understand?

Why you would make it perpendicular to the blade instead of being angled away from your hand, for starters.

For the same reason that normal crossguarded swords don't usually have angled guards. The defense is lessened when it's at an angle that the opponent can sweep by to still hit your grip hand. With the 90 degree cross-guard that chance is lessened significantly.

I love how much ppl are talking about these little things that really dont matter much.
But if the crossguard was actually useful youd have a piece of metal or w.e the light sabers are made of running all the way under the cross beam to protect you from self amputation. They would still be open at the top to stop the enemies saber. Not really well thought out, just seems like something quickly added to make it different and interesting.
