I sound like a broken record but I know that I'm gonna be like "no that shouldn't be like that! Or where is this person? Etc" going into this thanks to all those EU yrs. if in 30 yrs of time Luke hasn't rebuilt the NJO to a few hundred and he's been in exile for fear of training new Sith/Dark Jedi I'm going to be super pissed off!!

But wouldn't Chewie be dead as well, then? In which case, screw EU

From Makingstarwars.com they believe they have a synopsis of Luke's role in the film, which I will spoiler-ize in case it turns out to be true and some might want to remain unspoiled.

Spoiler

That's actually WAY more interesting as character growth for him than just having gone off and restarted the Jedi order right after ROTJ. I think we'll still see that, but it will happen in EpVIII.

At any rate, I like this rumour.

Agreed. I hope this turns out to be true.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Mark Hamill bringing out any bit of the Joker in his performances is awesome.

Yeah, but what a badass fucking death. If they decide to put that up on screen (and they should: with a great deal of cleaning up and streamlining, the NJO could make a fantastic series of movies. One particular key event would probably be the most epic-scale thing ever filmed if they did it right) people will be talking about it forever.

I do like the synopsis QT posted, though; I'd be alright with that.

The rumour that Chewie is missing an arm in EpVII has me intrigued as to what took that arm.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I mean, face it, surely it can't be worse than the prequel trilogy. It's not as if they turned the whole franchise over to Disney or something.

Say what you want about Disney, but there's really no reason to believe that they're going to ruin Star Wars- they've got a solid fucking record for making good films and their quality control, historically, is a lot higher than George Lucas/LucasArts.

Where one can have concerns is the way they sanitize and commercialise complex, shaded, often dark stories into fluffy, primary-coloured commercial machines, but (1) those films are still by-and-large good, (2) Star Wars is already a primary-coloured commercial machine, and (3) they're doing fine with Marvel so far.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of the up-and-coming Star Wars films will be better than any of the existing films bar Empire. And some may aspire to that level, if they get the right director on the right project. Honestly, I'm excited for the whole project. Abrams is a much better fit for SW, style-wise, than Star Trek, and he hasn't let Lindeloff or fucking Orci anywhere near the script, so far as we know, so it should be good. And after that, there's so many possibilities. I mean, look at the directors they've got on board. Bold choices.

He probably ripped it off and beat a small army to death with it.

It's pretty clear consensus that Empire Strikes Back is the best of the Star Wars movies - yet it's not actually that good of a film if you really look at it.

Somehow this whole Star Wars thing is the greatest swindle in film/entertainment history and Lucas knew it/exploited that for as much money as he could.

Resetting the whole thing, even to the point of burning the Extended Universe to the ground and making Briar King despondent, is an incredibly good idea - perhaps riskily so.

I'd disagree; Empire is actually a very good film. And though I got into Star Wars as a franchise young, I left it shockingly late to watch the original trilogy, so it's not particularly youthful nostalgia disguising it.

The other two in the OT aren't particularly great though, in terms of overall craft. Though they have their charm.

The thing about Lucas is he's a great ideas man, but a terrible storyteller. It's no coincidence that the film he had the least control over (it seems to be accepted that ESB is his least favourite, and I do definitely remember reading that he disliked several of the changes Kasdan and Kirchner made) is the best one.

The best Star Wars story is still Traitor in the NJO, though...

No, Empire Strikes Back has several great scenes in it, but it's not a particularly good movie.

Many things don't make sense or are brought up in clunky ways. However, the drama and coolness of the great scenes make those flaws fade in the watcher's eyes - especially if that watcher is an adolescent boy.

So.....is Thrawn still not gonna be in it?
Was thinking the other day, that it would be kidna cool have this new universes Thrawn be a female character. Maybe sans the blue makeup. There hasnt been any good female villians in the movie series and a non-force villianess (who is scarily competant) would be awesome. Maybe to go along with a Sith villian.
Daala done right basically. (Isard was better but she wasnt an officer in the fleet)

They jettisoned the entire EU, and have (apparently) cherry picked a few elements out of it for use in the new canon moving fwd...I have my doubts that someone as strongly connected to the Zahn trilogy as Thrawn would have been saved for the new canon when his story is tied to Luke, Leia, and Co all setting up a new Republic immeditely (it doesn't sound like that's what happened in THE FORCE AWAKENS)...on the other hand he's a REALLY cool character and with the right tweaking he could be inserted as a future villain possibly.

The Teaser trailer, which is apparently 88 seconds long, is running at select theatres in front of ALL movies at that theatre...all weekend.

http://www.thewrap.c...giving-weekend/

Note for Canadians, only two theatres in Canada. Luckily one is close by me.

I think this is a great idea. It's much better than running it in front of a specific movie to get people to go see that (MEET JOE BLACK, WING COMMANDER) like they did with THE PHANTOM MENACE....as people just left the theatre after the trailer. This way you just have to pick a movie you WANT to see, and you'll get to see the teaser.

Now, we all know it won't be long before this ends up leaked on the net...but as an old timey StarWars fan I feel the need to see this teaser in the theatre on a big screen.

Bottom line, I want to hear the fucking cheers and feel the goosebumps.
