The first two eps of MAUL: SHADOW LORD are exquisite.

Sam Witwer is on fire. But the cool thing is that every single character is interesting, Devon (who you can already see is not about her Jedi master Eeko-Dio-Daki's "Patience and all will be well" vibe) is very much a solid choice by Maul as a possible apprentice, on the run after Order 66 and realizing she needs to adapt as the Jedi order is no more, and her interests align with Maul's hatred of the Empire too. Lawson and his droid Two-Boots (Richard Aoyade?!) are also really compelling to watch what is ostensibly the beat cops on Janix try to reckon with what is happening with Maul....it's also great that Lawson has no idea who he is (why would he?)....but Devon knows who he is immediately because the Jedi knew. Rook is in it, but not as much as you'd expect, but she's just as solid as she's always been.

the Animation is (and I can't over exaggerate this) fucking STUNNING. The lighting, the smoothness of action, the overall quality is so high that it even puts TCW and The Bad Batch to shame (and they were both excellently animated)...this is simply on another level.

Speaking of which, this IMMEDIATELY feels more adult than those other shows. Every aspect feels darker and more real. Parts of it felt Blade Runner-ish.

The score is dark and evocative. The first shot of Maul being a variation on the Duel of the Fates opening was a nice little touch.

i will wait until the entire series is available
i will wait until the entire series is available

i will wait until the entire series is available....

if i run out of INVINCIBLE S4 before it's completed i will break like a kit kat bar.

MAUL SHADOW LORD Season 1 was awesome. I was home sick yesterday so I got to watch the finale right away and it was excellent. I don't want to say much more right now still people watch, but if you like Maul at all you won't be disappointed.

THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU was really solidly fun! It's a smaller stakes (though not entirely, it's still dealing with a crime syndicate that has been a thorn in the galaxy side a while) but that's part of its charm. It feels like a standalone adventure for these two, and there are a few moments of real great character building for Grogu. Tonnes of cool beasties and monsters and droids. Zeb is great even though his role is small, Weaver is a nice addition to the cast as a colonel and pilot for the New Republic. Jeremy Allen White's character (who I won't spoil here) is good, but probably the weakest voice acting in the whole thing if I'm honest...but it still works.

Don't expect galaxy spanning Star Wars Main MovieTM stuff, and you'll have a good time with a really breezy summer blockbuster.

Seeing this on Wednesday, really looking forward to it. We were going to wait until it's available at home but my Mum was very excited for a new Star Wars film so we're taking her.

It felt like a condensed season honestly. Pacing felt a bit for a movie but whatever. Plus if it helps the movie beat the message the grifters are yelling, all the better.

I'd agree with the feeling of a very condensed season of TV. Honestly though I really enjoyed it. Is it the cleverest thing in the world? No, but it's solid fun and that's all I ever really ask of Star Wars films.

Mum had an absolute ball, I'm never going to tire of taking her to see Star Wars films because she always has a blast.
