I've never watched that before. I had to struggle through those 1st 20 mins. Wow that was painful. I ll watch more later.

I forgot to mention I was drinking bourbon while watching. It may have helped.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Wtf!! Dec... They re messing up the May releases. All 6 have been in May. :)

Yeah, but it was either December, or May 2016...and Disney didn't want to wait that long...so they opted for end of 2015 instead. That said, the LOTR/HOBBIT films and HARRY POTTER films all did extraordinarily well with December releases, so there's a method to that madness I guess.

Yeah, and as Star Trek discovered this year, May is a very risky month to release films in now because it's so popular.

That said, it could all be moot by then coz at the moment 2015 could easily become the year that kills blockbuster Hollywood as we know it.

Why does everyone keep talking about the death of blockbusters? The same attitude is spreading among videogamers believing that the AAA industry will collapse, the publishers will go bankrupt and there will be no more consoles.

Where does this notion come from? Is it the idea that the bigger things become the harder they fall? Every year the movies and videogame companies record record breaking sales, so why would it suddenly shift? People wont suddenly stop watching movies because of one or two or ten bad films.

Everything we know about media-culture is that you can't really kill a form of media only force it to change. Right now there is no substitute for the cinema and there are no competitors that can take away their income. Even if all the big companies went under, new ones would spring up and they would grow larger once again. Maybe animated films would now dominate or a new style of film making would take the center stage but making expensive products to reap a large return will never go away.

It's not that people are going to stop watching films, but most people don't go to the cinema for everything and when there's too many films at one time they'll pick and choose. With that in mind, the problem is that there's suddenly far too many films with monster budgets that need massive box office to work out financially. Even this year, despite some enormous successes there has also been a fairly long list of films that either failed entirely or underwhelmed distinctly compared to the hopes and expectations of their studios - The Lone Ranger, RIPD, After Earth, Elysium, White House Down, Pacific Rim, Oblivion, even Star Trek all performed below expectations- most of them didn't earn their budget back domestically which is the general benchmark for a film's useful performance (several did well abroad, but the earnings there are more complicated and by and large less goes to the studios themselves).

This year, and next year, both have crowded slates, but the current release state for 2015 is absolutely fucking ridiculous with films on megabudgets and that is why a lot of people are predicting something of a crash that year. It won't go away, of course it won't, but it will quite possibly cause a serious re-evaluation of how things are done.

Just to put an example on the point, the 18th of December is currently the scheduled date for both Inferno (the Dan Brown one) and Warhammer (I can't imagine the latter won't be moved, they must be raging right now, but there's not that much space to move it to), and Kung Fu Panda 3 comes out a few days later.

Envision the opening scene...

Space. Camera pans down, revealing the planet Tatooine. Suddenly, from the top of the screen a blue box hurtles spinning into the distance. Blaster bolts follow, and then a Star Destroyer slowly descends into the frame. The blue box is taken into the Star Destroyer's hangar bay.

Cut to hangar bay, where stormtroopers surround the blue box, weapons drawn. The TARDIS door opens, and out steps the Eleventh. "Hello everyone! Dynamite uniforms!"
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Gotta take issue...Eleven would never say "Dynamite".

How about this: "Hello everyone? Ooooh, shiny plastic armor! Love me some shiny plastic armor. *grins* Right you lot, lets go meet whoever put my TARDIS in a force-field. Come on...geronimo."

Nah, geronimo has to be saved for the assault on Death Star III.

I just hope Jack Harkness pops up to flirt with Han and Leia.

Latest I heard was that they were working on a solid, line through canon for EVERYTHING....so I expect portions of the EU to survive the new trilogy.

Last thing I heard was Marvel will be taking over the comics from Dark Horse in 2015.

That figures, since Marvel is also Disney.

Dark Horse has had a great run with Star Wars, will be sad to see them off it.

Sadly it means Legacy 2.0 and Dawn of the Jedi will be "finished" way earlier than planed. Just .... I have little faith in Marvel handling SW as well as DHC did.

The canon reconfiguration is interesting. It sounds like they're taking a surgical scalp to it rather than a lawnmower, but the assumption is that almost everything pre-movies (KotOR, TOR etc) will remain canon, if only so they can still make money from people playing THE OLD REPUBLIC. It's almost certain that THE NEW JEDI ORDER and everything after will be decanonised because it completely transforms the STAR WARS universe and will be too cumbersome to explain in dialogue.

The stuff inbetween - the Bantam novels - is a curious one. Some of them are crap and will likely never be mentioned (anything by Kevin J. Anderson, natch). Others are low-key enough that they can go unmentioned but there's no reason they might not have happened (stuff like X-WING, most notably). The only stuff that might crop up is the THRAWN TRILOGY, the popularity of which is quite staggering (out of almost 200 STAR WARS books published totalling 100 million sales, the THRAWN TRILOGY by itself has sold 20 million of them, making it orders of magnitude more popular than any of the other series). We know that the new movies will focus on Han and Leia's kids and there's no reason they can't be the same kids born in the THRAWN books. Whether Thrawn himself will be referenced is unclear. The other option is that they do a re-envisoned version of the THRAWN books, with him showing up 40 years later rather than 5. The alleged casting of Hugo Weaving as an 'Imperial Officer' has led to much fanwanking in that general direction.

The latest, brilliant rumour suggests that maybe even the prequel movies may not be 100% regarded as canon!

Spoiler

Frankly, that sounds quite entertaining :p

THE OLD REPUBLIC has been totally free to play for a long while now actually.
