Colonise it. and put cubes on the two planets.
Pretty sure I'll be taking the victory points, as I don't think anything good is left to come in the bonuses.

Put the Diplomat cube on the science track please, and claim both systems. Settle the Orbital on 2J from the Money track and both grey planets in the Galactic Centre from the Money track too.
So that gives me:

Upkeep: -21
New Total: 3
Science:
Old Total: 1
Income: +8
New Total: 9
Materials:

So I'm on:
M: 5/+24
R: 0/+15
P: 16/+10
Upkeep:-21
So I get my resources, then I lose a brown and a pink cube, and I'll put one of the grey cubes on the money track and one on the research track.
M: 9 /+21
R: 15 /+10
P: 26/+8
Starting upkeep: -5

2I is your homeworld d'rek according to Morgoths scheme. I don't know why STD thinks he has 2J but I guess he means 2I.
I thought we'd agreed that since STD hasn't actually broken his alliance with Tapper, he keeps the token? The rules seem to suggest that

The rules don't say anything one way or another. If Tapper was still playing without ships or hexes, I could see it, but since he has chosen to stop I think it should be removed. In fact, by the rule book Tapper would have put away all his tokens and player board and stuff, meaning he would give back the diplomacy token he had to STD, and when that happens STD has to give the one on his player board back, too.

Out of curiosity what would you have done differently? I couldn't think of any moves you could make that would have had a realistic chance of beating STD's cruiser (not without 3 reactions or similar)
That was why I was surprised you didn't react and build a starbase, stopping STD getting to your homeworld.
re the rules question, in that case I don't know what we should do

If 3 reactions is what it takes, I'd have done it. Probably build two starbases (does nanobots count for reactions?) and put an improved hull on them.

Oops, yeah. I did say 2I in my original movement orders, but must have gotten mixed up when I did the settlement.
Re: the Diplo cube question - there doesn't seem to be any way for me to remove that cube as Tapper has no ships or systems left for me to attack. So if you don't think I should remove it then it will stay there until the rest of the game. But I don't mind too much either way, to be honest - seems like most of the high scoring battle tiles have been taken already. If I have to put the cube down, it will go on the materials track.

Would you have been allowed to? I thought once everyone had passed you weren't allowed to do reactions any more?
There wasn't really any point in me taking the system on our border when your homeworld was wide open, and this felt like much more of a killer blow. No point in taking the traitor card unless I'm getting something good out of it.

Well she could have done a reacion to move one of her Dreads to her home world. There would have been a small chance that STD could have missed with two of his missles letting her retaliate and destroy his cruiser. I don't think D'rek could have done a reaction halfway throught STDs move to stop him short of her homeworld by building a starbase but I may be wrong.
And D'rek makes a very good point about the whole diplomacy thing with Tapper.
But hey I'm elimanted what do I know.

Come now, sulking is unseemly .
To be honest, I was assuming you would put a starbase in the way, and then I wouldn't have done it. You can't leave your Homeworld undefended like that and expect to get away with it. And it seems a little early to admit defeat here - not like I've invaded you with a huge armada, after all.

Of course. If your ally is too trusting you just really have no choice at all but to backstab them. Basic principles, isn't it...

You have 4 cruisers, 1 deep in my sectors and the other 3 on my borders. Any one of them can take out a dreadnaught of mine, or any other ship I put up. Seems more realistic than pessimistic to me.

I don't really think of Diplomatic Relations as an Alliance in this game. You do it for the convenience of the extra cube rather than any overriding idea of working together (and it's not like we actually had any conversations about working together in any meaningful sense anyway). When the benefits of attacking outweigh the cube and the Traitor Card, I have no qualms about breaking DR.

So redesign your ships, or build some more, or convince me to attack someone else, or convince someone else to attack me. Or all 4. There's plenty of options on the table if you have the tenacity to play it out. (Dunno why I'm trying to inspire you to oppose me...)

D'rek, you only had one reaction available , meaning you wouldn't have been able to get a dreadnaught there. You would have been able to build a single starbase, but do no upgrades.
