Everything looks pretty balanced at the moment. STD's death missile ships look like a nice counter to d'reks dreadnoughts of doom, and morgoths shrubberys have a lot of menacing potential. I have a feeling my presence in the centre might be short-lived.

I'm very tempted to move my cruisers to take D'reks homesystem and neutron bomb her other orbital base, I won't be able to hold it, and I'll probably lose the centre as a result of the reaction, but I'd be interested to see what the fallout would be...

What does everyone else think, would you be contesting the centre with D'rek on your reaction STD? a big part of me wants to do it just to mix things up a bit... and also because D'rek said I wouldn't

I'm very happy not to expand my exposure to the rest of the Galaxy, so my shrubberies will not take advantage.

D'rek might not be too pleased though

Since the forum itself crashed because I thought about attacking d'rek, I won't go through with it. Though it would have seriously hurt d'rek, I don't see the resulting fallout benefiting me much. Your prognostications are right once more D'rek.

So I'll pass, and colonise my three free grey planets with research tokens.

Leaves me at:
M: 5/+21
R: 1/+15
P: 8/+8

Upkeep:-21

Can you do that when you pass?

I'll check the rules tonight, and then resolve if nothing's in the way.

Well you can colonise planets after combat, and before upkeep, so I assumed you can colonise at any point... It isn't an action.

Ah yes, that's a good point. I'll go with that interpretation.

I would say that you can't when you Pass, but you can at the start of the Upkeep phase. Letting IH colonize them now has no real disadvantages for anyone else, it would only make a difference if there were battles happening at those sectors, and now those cubes could make it harder for someone else to eliminate all the population in that hex. In this case it doesn't matter because there's no battles in those hexes.

With a round of passes from everyone that should end the action phase.

Round 5 Combat Phase

Hydran vs Orion - 4P

1 fighter + 1 dreadnaught vs 2 fighters

R1
2x Fighters - Hegemony Fighter r1: 4#1d6 2 6 5 4 - 1 hit, fighter killed.
Dreadnaught - Dreadnaught r1: 3#1d6 6 4 3 - 3 hits, fighters killed.

Hegemony is dead.

Hydran's receive no better tile.

Do you chose to do anything with your freshly conquered 1F, D'rek?

Following that decision we enter

What about Tapper? Did we skip the poor dutchie?

Yes. He hasn't done a 3rd action yet.

After STD does his 4th, I will do a Reaction to move my Dreadnaught in Orion into Phi Piscium.

Hegemony receives a +2 tile,
Hydran's receive nothing better

I don't claim to know what D'rek is talking about by naming the tiles instead of giving the coordiates of the tiles but didn't she do a reaction to move her Dreadnaught into the sector where Tapper has his two fighters?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I couldn't see one anywhere? Ah, I get it. She hadn't highlighted it so I didn't see it when I control checked.

In that case I must redo the battle.

Sorry, I should've highlighted it better.

And I will wait on the results of the 4P battle before deciding about 1F.

I kept being too lazy to try and figure out the morgy-coordinates of the hexes but had their names in my notes so I was using those. But here's a full "translation" thingy to prevent mis-communications:

Spoiler

I for one have a hard time deciding whom I'm considering the most likely winner so far.

Though IH looks strong in points, and D'rek has a very big potential, with the amount of access points they have to defend things can turn very quickly. STD holds a very interesting position I think, and might just surprise one, or both of our current powers.

I guess you could say that the Planta are a power in their own right, but the closer we come to the end, the more the weakness of our ships come into play. My plans have certainly been thrown into a loop with the fall of the Hegemony, which is why I suddenly had to change tactics this round.

I think IH, me and STD are too evenly matched that no one will ever have the ability to push into Planta space in the next 4 rounds, leading to a Planta Monolith supremacy, but I could be wrong.

How much do you want to bet that Tapper has no idea you guys are waiting on him to make his decision?

So, D'rek needs to decide what to do with her two systems now that the battle is over.

Planta upkeep - r5

Trade 6 materials for 2 money, giving us the following upkeep

M - 2 /+15
S - 0/ +10
P - 0/ +12

Upkeep -17

Starting position for round 6

M - 0 / +15
S - 10/+10
P - 12/+12

Upkeep -5

I will place a disc in 1F/Pollux and move population cubes to the new science squares, but I will leave 3P/Phi Piscium empty.
