Technically we can consider the game started right now. We are just having an extended opening move to accommodate a few people that couldn't start right away. The 22nd is the deadline to get moves in so if you wait to start scheming until that date then you will be considered late. We hate moves that are late. It makes the game longer than it needs to be.

@STD I'll get around to the map and player list posted some time today.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Remembering the games I used to play vs. postal.

No reading facial expressions and body language.

No watching Germany step into the hallway to talk with England.

No jumping up and running into the closet with Russia while the other two are in the hallway and won't see you.

No hand signals to Austria that you convinced Russia to take the bait.

No "dammit, England and Germany came back in and saw you and Russia coming out of the closet" so have to give Germany the slight head nod that means the deal with Russian to attack Austria is good to go.

The notes under the table still apply though. So you are completely fucked when you find out they were all double dealing and French is no longer the official language of Paris.

Hmm. How many people use Skype?

I always wondered how an in person game of Diplomacy would be done. I always thought that everyone had to be in the same room within earshot of each other so I didn't know how the scheming would be done.

My understanding (having never actually played an in person game myself) is that you go out of the room with someone if you want to discuss something. In order to keep up appearances, I'm told this means you have to step outside with everyone in order to leave nobody feeling suspicious.

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I don't care when you start the game. I will be incommunicado all of next week.

I knew the starting of the game doesn't really matter as long as we can give you and Tapper some time for when you get back so you can still get some scheming in before we resolve.

Pinned for you. I might be able to alternate if someone drops out, but it seems your pretty covered for backups!

IH,

Vengy mentioned that he would be okay with a Co-Player for Italy. I wasn't sure if that was something you would be interested in doing. If not then I'll go ahead and put you down as a second alternate behind Gnaw.
