A Question Regarding Reading Order

Hello, I'm currently in the middle of reading the Malazan series, I was originally planning to read all of Erikson's work then Esslemont's but now I've heard that Esslemont's books are actually best read with Erikson's. I've seen this reading order:
http://thewertzone.b...ding-order.html
Which I think is the generally accepted one. Now my question is I'm currently 200 pages into Bonehunters and I've obviously missed Night Of Knives, should I read it after Bonehunters and then read Return Of The Crimson Guard or should I just read it at the end? I noticed on the main forum page Night Of Knives is put after Bonehunters, is this also a possible reading order?
Cheers in advance.

My advice. Read the mains SE series as published. Then read Esslemont's novels. Then read the SE novellas. Then read the upcoming two trilogies.
And I say this as the undisputed Liege.

I don't think there's any general consensus on the best reading order (use the search function to find a dozen other threads about this. Definitely that Wertzone post doesn't match most people's choices.
The most common I've seen is:
GotM >> DG >> MoI >> HoC >> MT >> NoK >> tBH >> RG >> RotCG >> TtH >> SW >> DoD >> TCG >> OST >> B&B
Personally, I suggest:
GotM >> DG >> (BF) >> (tLoLE) >> (WoBM) >> MoI >> HoC >> MT >> (tHD) >> NoK >> tBH >> RG >> (CPT) >> RotCG >> TtH >> SW >> DoD >> OST >> TCG >> B&B >> Assail
which I will not spend a thousand words explaining when I've done so elsewhere already.

To answer the core question: it's okay to read tBH before NoK when you've already started it. The book forums have the publishing order and you can't go wrong by following it. Some people disagree, but frankly, I recommend not to stress about it too much and just enjoy the books.

Also, RG before RotCG is important, as RotCG has several spoilers for RG.

TBH features a minor character who is one of the main characters in NoK, but I think reading it in either order informs the other rather than spoiling it. Reading TBH first adds mystery to your NoK read. Reading NoK first turns an appearance in TBH from a minor mystery into a neat cameo. So there's rewards both ways.

That said, I would listen to D'rek about the rest of the series, which is much less flexible IMO.

It's not too bad, really. Major ones are RotCG spoils RG and DoD spoils RotCG. There's also a little continuity from RotCG to TtH, and a LOT of continuity from TtH to OST. Other than that, as long as you read each author in their own order (ie DoD before TCG, duh!) it works out.
Here. Just make sure that before you read any book, you've read all the books that are pointing at it. As long as you have that, it works:

BH to RG to DoD is a terrible idea.

So is BH to TTH. That diagram is bozacks, I'm afraid.

It's really not.
Did you not read what she said?
"Just make sure that before you read any book, you've read all the books that are pointing at it. As long as you have that, it works"
The diagram doesn't suggest going RG to DoD to TCG, as DoD also has TTH pointing to it. Nor does it suggest BH to TTH, as TTH also has RotCG pointing to it. On D'rek's graphic, to read any book, it's recommended to read any books that are displayed as pointing to it, first.

No I didn't read what she said, I only read my own posts, over and over, in total abject admiration. Duh.
Your explanation makes the graph a bit less bozacky, but at the same time, all you really need to know is where to stuff ICE's books into the main AND ONLY reading order of the MBOTF. This whole hippy dippy free sex anything goes attitude to the order makes me sick.

Why does it have to be so complicated, with graphs and stuff? Publishing order seems easy enough to understand.
But then, D'rek's everyone's favourite graph nerd. I just can imagine some newbies being intimidated by such things.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to say thanks for the posts! I am only up to The Bonehunters but I just recently found out about Ian Esslemont so this is very helpful for me.

I posted this in another thread a while back, but I'll repost it here since this thread is being resurrected. This is what I consider to be a good guide to follow as far as indicating where you can insert non-MBotF books into the MBotF sequence while avoiding spoilers and having all plots that cross-over between series be ordered chronologically:
