I think it's in the Mod thread, but I listed this as an 8.

As for doing something useful, while I reach for the aspirin bottle, Korosis scared the crap out of me yesterday. He's way too fucking smart for our continued good health. I think I could easily be talked into just a "let's all lynch the bright person in the next 3 hours".

Can you maybe explain that?

Click page 4. 5th post down. He basically sums up all the previous pages with 4 quotes and 5 paragraphs, putting the final nails in Eloth's coffin. It was a thing of beauty.

That's how it's supposed to be done. If we start getting rid of smart players first, I'm going to live forever

I was getting pretty damn annoyed at Mockra and now Meanas trying to downplay themselves so as to not appear a threat.

If I'm reading it right, Mockra wants to lynch Karosis because he's smart. Which is a dumb way to play any Mafia game, but particularly a faction game where no one knows their whole team. So either Mockra knows something about Karosis, or Mockra is an independent. Neither of these gives me a lot of confidence in his push for the lynch.

Maybe, but it's true that Karosis basically put the nails on Eloth's coffin. Where you guys are getting this 'smart' player thing from, I don't know, Karosis basically just regurgitated a bunch of stuff that Korv had already said (albeit more eloquently), but that regurgitation certainly seemed to garner the necessary votes to lynch Eloth. I think Karosis saw an opportunity to get rid of an assassin and jumped on it, and I think that an assassin is more likely to do this, though on Day 1 I think anyone would have been willing to get rid of an assassin.

I seem to remember someone defendingeloth yesterday. On the off chance that he WAS. A recruiter, and had an underling to pass it down to, could someone look back at who defended him? I won't be able to for some time

It seems to me that we may have hit an assasin in Eloth. Shin has said that the three factions are the Hosokawa, the Ouchi and the Amako, so if he's an agent of the Ashikaga Shogunate, that suggests to me that he was at least an independent. It is possible that Sorrit is correct and Eloth was out attempting to recruit, and recruiting was a big factor in the last Sengoku game, so it wouldn't surprise me if Shin had thrown something of the sort in here.

Having slept the night, and having had a chance to reread stuff, I agree with these re: Mockra. I will have to look at Meanas a bit closer to form a better opinion, but Mockra is certainly doing a good job at trying to direct us towards Karosis, and I think that means he knows something we don't know, and that could be dangerous.

To be fair, an assassin is the easiest of lynches for anyone in the game. When we vote for an assassin, it says nothing of our role alignment, and guarantees another day where a culture hunt does not hit our team.

Popping in on a free period. No discussion as of yet. What does everyone think about the assassin mechanic?

We've had decent discussion, actually.

You an assassin? Age old rule. I need to go back and look at the mechanic, but i don't remember there being a lot to discuss..

I just was trying to kick start a discussion. We've pretty much just talked about beards and people being nekkid. I guess we could discuss unaligned assassins and aligned ones. Shin mentioned unaligned factions not counting towards faction vcs. Can assassins be revruited or something?

Just wanted to pull this out.

Was looking for whoever might have defended Eloth as Korbas suggested, and ran across this. Maybe Eloth WAS a recruiter, he was certainly the first person to bring up the possibility of this mechanic, though I think he later said he was implying the contracts for hire here. Maybe he used the contracts for hire thing to cover up the recruiting idea?

Anyway, gonna keep trying to find the defense of Eloth if there is one.

I'm going to disagree with your reasoning Korbas. But agree with your solution. Rather than a forced push on the assassin role, I think it was adept changing of the subject away for the Osseric defending Karosis discussion. But which one is he trying to protect? Too soon to tell. So vote Eloth and see who jumps on the train.
Vote Eloth.

Well, this is the closest I can find to a defense of Eloth, and it's not really a defense.

That being said, Mockra apparently used the unbolded vote above to snoop out a connection between Karosis and Osseric somehow. He eventually put his vote on Osseric, but I still don't really understand the whole train of thought.

He says the following:

 Mockra, on 19 September 2012 - 07:00 PM, said:

 Korvalain, on 19 September 2012 - 06:17 PM, said:

Oh, forgot to vote... Given the above, I currently don't trust Eloth. I think he's an assassin that slipped and is now scrambling to try to cover it up.
vote Eloth

We're only two pages in so I'm skipping the quotes. Besides saving me time, it forces everyone to re-read and double check my thought process.Three things stand out to me also.
Two people think that Eloth slipped and revealed. I think he did a deliberate change of subject to protect either Osseric or Karosis. If I'm right then Eloth is aware of a faction tie and is less important than that faction tie.
When I posted my hypothesis, Osseric jumped in with a typo complaint. That makes him "George".
Of course the gaping hole in logic is Korosis has disappeared.
For now I'll stand with my vote.

He leaves his vote on Osseric, but I don't really understand any of the logic in that post.

And then what's worse, he later says that the non-bolding was just a mistake, after having said that it was how he sussed out an Osseric tie as far as I can see...

 Mockra, on 19 September 2012 - 08:10 PM, said:

 D, on 19 September 2012 - 07:17 PM, said:

But what exactly was the purpose of the non-bolded vote for Eloth? That's what confused me.

That was simply a mistake on my part. Apparently bolding text really is that hard.

So as far as I can tell, he spent a good chunk of Day 1 just contradicting himself.

I think this is pretty rich coming from you. It seems that everone forgot that you were the first one to cry assassin about Eloth. It seems to me that you've been downplaying yourself and trying to throw suspicion out there in order to keep the spotlight away from you. I would still be interested in seeing whether you CF assassin or not.

At this point, I would be willing to vote Karosis or Korbas.

What is it with you and wanting to get rid of the smart players? First against Karosis, and now against Korbas?

Sure Korbas was the first to cry assassin, but I would have done it if he hadn't. When someone speculates about a role, it's a rule of thumb that there's a better than 50% chance they are talking about their own role. It makes sense to speculate about a role you have all the info on, because it's easy to make it seem like you don't know anything to the other people with the same role.

During his morning round of the exterior of the castle, the Amako general came across his supplymaster sitting and fanning himself under the willow outside of the supply shed. He gave the man a brief glance and gave a small nod. The paymaster’s lips twitched briefly and he nodded back, although he didn’t raise his eyes. Subtle and deferential, that was good, thought the general.

Satisfied, he continued onwards on his walk but stopped after a few steps. Something… Mentally he shook his head but made no physical motion. He resisted the urge to glance back. It was irritating, having to use such methods, but he had to trust his instincts and hope this worked. If he could avoid war for as long as possible and heighten tensions between the Ouchi and Hosokawa, it would allow his master to make a grab for power when the time was ripe. It was a good thing he was doing, it had to be. He started walking again. As soon as he was out of sight, the man under the willow stood up and ducked into the shed. Everyone had work to do.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Sumiyuki Hosokawa smiled as he brushed the words onto the paper. Just as he knew his master in Kyoto would smile upon reading them. “Everything goes as planned.”

Right?

So I'm still interested in the Mockra thing, I think there might be something there, and this reinforces it for me a little.

Now the heck does this mean?

Amako General sees his paymaster, he feels like there's something wrong with the paymaster, he wants to heighten tensions between the other two clans, the paymaster has a secret.

Then the Sumiyuki Hosokawa bit makes it seem like the above was all his doing.

I'm confused.

So what, because I agreed with Mockra about something, and because I brought up something I spent a good part of yesterday mentioning, I MUST be defending Mockra? That's just silly. Is it my fault the guy makes sense? I think that you're just trying to pull attention away from Korbas in the same way that you are accusing me of pulling attention away from Mockra.
