The Willow.........yeah, I know how that feels. Found a piccie of my eldest the other day when she was a baby and it's hard to comprehend how much the passing of time changes how we view our children, and how that reflects on us.

Nothing prepares you for that moment when your heart stops and every emotion you've invested during the previous nine months hits you all at once.

Ha - you ain't seen nothing yet. You wait for the first time she brings a boyfriend home or goes up town late ect etc. Whole new set of fears I'm afraid.

Well, given that she's only just of an age to even be thinking about boys, I hope I've got a few years yet before I start to go grey with worry!
What she's more worried about is the fact that by the time she's old enough to be bringing boyfriends home, the little one will be the perfect age to bug her about it! I think the novelty of having a little brother may well be wearing thin!

Just something to look forward to then. Yes internal squabbling is always fun but fortunately there wasn't too much teasing. What gets on my nerves is the relationship rollercoaster - loves young dream, arguing, sulks and silences, splitting up/not splitting up, making up and back round again.

Hmm, my sister is abit like that at the mo. She's 15 and has done the in-love/hate him with a vengeance routine twice now!
To be honest I think she's damn lucky as I was NEVER allowed boyfriends at that age!

Anyway, back to poetry:p Do you write alot then?
I just cannot write poetry. I don't think I have a great enough appreciation of it to write anything worthy of being called poetry!

Hmmmm wouldn't say I write a lot as such, but I tend to go through phases. I won't write anything for ages then I'll get into it for a couple of months then drift again etc. mind you at least with poetry I can actually get something on paper. Tried for a long time to get going with a story, again very much off and on, but never really got anywhere with it.

I think poetry can be very personal, it may mean a lot to you when you write it but mean nothing to anyone else. I've read some things that I thought were amazing but also a lot that didn't touch me at all. Very subjective.

Ha talk about phases:

Here you go, something new

Betrayal

My friends are dead and gone.
Bones scattered and burnt,
cold ashes on the wind,
dispersing slowly, swirling
into oblivion.

Their dreams too are broken,
charred and shattered,
discarded and disdained.
Their hopes and loves are dust
settling on my tongue.

Memories are just whispers
as the wind whips my legs
and i bear the lash
of their silent accusations
echoing in my ears.

Their kiss ashes on my lips,
a taste of guilt and fear,
and in my terror
I call their names and
pay for absolution.

I do not know what I fear most,
that they should answer or
that I should be alone

Too Late

I saw you standing in the rain
The water swirling past you to the drain
A multi-colour kaleidoscope
Reflected by the headlights glare

I watched you shake your head again
Scattering tears amongst the thousand drops
And pull your hood tighter to your face
A barrier against the pain

I turned my face up to the sky
And paused to play again the words I used
Mouth agape to rinse away my bile
And prayed that I would drown myself

I spat the water to the floor
And glanced over again to where you stood
A poignant picture of misery
And felt my heart clenched tight with fear

And as I watched you I felt shamed
Forgot about our bitterness and hate
It dissolved away like stubborn dirt
And left behind your love beneath

... too late

Ah, regret is something that has inspired many a poet.
Of the two, it was Too Late that touched me most, although the last three lines of Betrayal had a similar effect.
I do sometimes wish I could write a poem that was half decent:( Mine just look like an uneducated chimp wrote them!

What! you mean I wrote yours too! ;)

I'm sure you could really.

Regrets, yes often a good source of inspiration I've found. Must mean I've had few, and more than enough to mention. :)

LMAO!
You certainly know how to make a girl giggle:p
Oooh, dear! Perhaps that's not always a good thing:eek: ;) :)

I try not to have regrets.......to regret something means to focus your attention on looking backwards, and harsh reality has taught me that this is, perhaps, not the healthiest thing to do.

I might have a stab at writing a piece of poetry, but only if you promise not to laugh!( sniggers are allowed if kept to a dull roar;) )

Oops well I suppose a giggle's ok, not quite a squeal but not too bad.;) Oh damn now even a gigle's bad.

I agree, face front and keep marching, if you fall down a ditch well that's just too bad. :)

Go on have a go, I promise to be gentle :)

Should get your story stuff back to you on Monday, though had a few probs today cos my employer's have suddenly blocked the Malazan site and I rarely get onto the home computer. Ho hum

b*stards! Hardly sounds fair:Erm:

I must admit I get abit teritorial(sp) about my computer! If someone else is using it I want to know why and how long they're going to be!
Don't rush with the crit, there's no set time scale on the verdict! Real Life has to take precedence over forum life, so whenever you're ready is fine with me:)

Yeah yesterday it was fine, this morning "this website is blocked by Websense" - arrggh, now i'll have to get on with my work without checking what's happening.

Pesky kids always on the computer, bah! I normally bring a laptop home to do work, and anything else on, but it's not linked to the net. The main one's in the girls room so can't get at it when their in bed either.

That's alright, jotted some notes over a printed version on the train earlier so I'll try and get them onto the file and back to you and then I'll continue to peruse it and let you have anything else that occurs. Enjoyed it mind! ;) Real life is a pain interfering, I'm interviewing Tues/Wed and rashly decided they had to sit a test as well. Just got to make one up!! :)

Here's a new one - going for something spiritual ;). Anyone remember Gary Numan?

Ka

Here in my Ka
I feel safest of all
Noone visits me here
Cos I've locked all the doors

Brandish my id
Like a badge of my pride
And I use it to say
Access will be denied

Spirit is pure
A hundred percent proof
So it armours my heart
Hiding me from the truth

I feel no fear
Shy away from contact
If I let someone in
Don't know how I'd react

Conscience is clear
And subconscious is fine
We still often converse
Is that such a bad sign

Ego and I
Often have bruising fights
But he never gets loose
Except sometimes at night

I'm self contained
In my castle and moat
I explore brand new seas
In my fast sinking boat

You think I'm sad
Or perhaps a bit strange
I'd say I disagree
But I'm likely deranged

:) if you really have to you can add a "In my ka" between each verse. :)

This one's for a friend of mine, hope she likes it.

The Guessing Game

Mischievous minx with a twinkling eye
who torments me with every twisting
tempting turn of phrase and word and sigh
A subtly sizzling siren who smiles
and with sensuously sultry laugh
can bring my bubbling blood to boiling
Impish and playful she beguiles me
Coquettish and coy she teases and
tickles by massaging my ego
Bewitching enchantress she crushes
my barriers drawing me out and
laughs as I stumble and fall at her feet

Well, Orfantal, if someone wrote something like that for me, I can only say that I would be incredibly flattered that I had inspired someone to pen those enchanting words

Keep smiling hun

Still smiling

Here's another

Because

Some laugh with crooked smiles
some talkwith twisted tongues
some bare their yellowed fangs
and sinkthe bastards in

Some dig with venomed words
like grimy broken nails
claw with bitter malice
and slash with blinkered hate

Some guard their spiteful thoughts
and hoard them like manure
They stack the steaming pile
and spew it out with glee

Some have no life to lead
and have no love to give
they seek to silence those
whose dreams they cannot see
