To those of you out of the loop Black Mesa Source is a complete overhaul of the first Half-life game. It's being done by a team of modders as a kind of fan project that fell into development hell. The only thing more highly anticipated among PC gamers than Black Mesa is probably Half-life 3 it self.
Now we have a count down. 12 days.

Here's a forum post about the release:

It's not the full game yet. We only get the material up until the Xen stages, which will then be released later on as an entirely seperate game.
Seeing as this is not supported by Valve they can't sell the game so you can play Black Mesa for free as long as own any game that uses the source engine.
That's right. THE GAME IS FREE.
Here's the wiki on the game:

Here's an old trailer:
Here's some gameplay footage from August:
Keep in mind this is just a mod. It's basically a 14 year old game, running on a 6 year old engine with some suped-up graphics... but damn, I've really been looking forward to this.

Hooray, finally!
Last checked for updates 2 days ago, typical I didn't get a hint then. This is going to be brilliant.
Thanks Apt, once again it returns to my open tabs waiting.

Yeah, I bought and played through Half-life source back 2010 because I was sure the game was just around the corner and wanted to experience the difference. Now it will be like playing it first time all over again.

They might want to update http://isblackmesareleased.com/ too.
I've not replayed HL about 5 years now in the hope that I'll have forgotten some bits and the game will be even better because I won't even recall how the original went. The idea was for substantial redesigns of all sections so I wont know exactly where to go and where the spawn points are, excellent. Now I just need to wait 11 days, 16 hours 42min and 50 seconds

You know, I've never actually played more than a couple levels of Half Life. This will be a good way to freshen up that.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

It's been a long road but it promises to be oh so worth it, I've been looking forward to this since I was a glint in my mothers eye!

I guess it was to be expected. I'm checking in again in an hour to see if there's any progress.

Anybody been playing the game over the weekend?
It feels really old, kinda frustrating but I like what they've done with the game. I can remember most of the levels from playing Half-life source and I can see that they've stream lined a bunch of stuff, making it more easily navigated and some of the puzzles more simple. The combat is still as unforgiving though. I find myself quick saving and quick loading over and over again because just a few hits in any given encounter will take your health down to a worrying level.
I wasn't quite feeling the graphical update, it's much improved over the original, but still running on an old, old engine. Then I tried looking up some youtube videos of the original when I got stuck and my god the difference is startling.
