Heh Ok that goes into my reading strategy document.

here is the redline (disclaimer tamely NSFW):

Spoiler

Not much here just an idea of what I think your lighting should end up doing. I like the composition, just becareful your couple don't create a region unto themselves. as it is the moon is the focal with the highest contrast even if you have stepped it behind the tree. the Foreground needs to compete or surpass that contrast and that haziness factor where the light touches the figures will really set the mood.

I was a millimeter away from suggesting wax candles. then I remembered how quickly those can go wrong. So very, very wrong...

HAHAHAHAHA I have that bloody song frolicking around my head now!! XD XD
(I swear I didn't listen to anything of that ilk while painting this...I do so swear...no, wait, there IS a sopsong in Týr's newest album. Aaaaa halp.)

I was considering to have an off-stage light source in the foreground that would have lit a patch of grass and created some highlights, but, yes, the moon should function as the main illumination and shadow-creator. I'll think about how to proceed. :harhar: Consistent light sources are one of my weak points. Thanks!!

I probably was overcautious while placing it beneath the strictest mature content filters; in my country this would qualify as PG-13-ish, but I've become a mite jumpy about boards hosted in the States. :p

Well I'm a devout adherent of the Timon and Pumbaa interpretation, So less frolicking and more warthog.

The off stage light would have been nice. Its a love scene so either warm or cool lighting can be effective, Sadly not both. That tends to turn into and action adventure or thriller light scheme. so if you go for warm off screen light source, (which may look better I think) try tone down the rim light from the moon. It'd be fun to see you working on either.

So is this gonna be a thing? Did the were-dolphins lead up to this? I always knew romance novels affected ones head, especially Scottish vampire ones. :harhar:

Sadly I must confess I read another chick-lit piece in December and it also featured a Scotsman for some inexplicable reason. :harhar: It was half ok, though, no glittery vampires or half-were-squid-half-were-ostrichs. Plus all those yule chocolates! A terrible combination that will apparently fill the handful of existing brain cells with marshmallowish fluff and muffle the voice of reason beneath the cooing of doves. But I'm back to Abercrombie and Malazan and some Scott Bakker as the following item on my to-read list so it should be all normal and sensible now!! I hope!!! :p
I didn't buy the were-dolphin romp yet, but I do have an extra Audible credit loitering about...as if I didn't get weird enough recommendations from that site already.

It's a canon couple, so I'm afraid Donaldson made it a "thing" before me, though. :-D Well, I surmise the scene here is meant to lead to some action, but it's up to BFG and his swordswoman as to whether they choose to make it a thrilling adventure. So I'm thinking of a cold light scheme, as I rather like the blue tones and that will still allow a hint of green on the foreground (if I end up using that small external thingamajig; fantasy will permit unconventionally colored campfires and whatnot). I'll post a more complete version eventually. :p

Hakuna matata and eating bugs in the woods is always fun and merry, but will work only about two months on this latitude, and then one must either frolic to keep warm or build an igloo.

Ok so I have been trolling around the site looking around then I saw the new 10 book compilation SaltmanZ had posted. Kekai had done the cover! that was awesome as he has been a favourite of mine for years. Anyways since this is the official art thread here are a few of my top fantasy artists of 2013, they had a great year and I thought as this is a fantasy forum You guys might enjoy their work:

James Zapata:

Posted Image

Brilliant artwork and intelligent lightwork. James has this level of atmosphere I really envy. He brings the unreal to life. His armour is always intricate, everything from Epic to minute is given careful attention. one of the smartest artists I've followed on DA. his best work is kept on his official site.

Sour Acid:

Posted Image

Portraits galore with a style both refined and very expressive. Also a South african ;).

Euclase

Posted Image

Realism level 9000. Euclase has an interesting ability to make something look photographicly crisp without losing that too perfect feel lots of artists at this level develop. you can see the artists choice. he doesn't just reproduce photographs, he re-imagines them. and believe it or not most of these arent taken direct from a photo. his tutorials are brilliant!

Anyone else found inspiring artists that amaze? Please go ahead and share!

I like it, very dramatic! A tiny comment about teeth: they get larger towards the back (google a skull profile).

I like the drama of it too!! The contrast on the back is a little too sharp tho.

Also, @Dolmen - euclase is a lady ;)
Currently re-reading the entire series and waiting for Fall of Light. You can catch me in the chat to win a drawing request!~MISANDRY FOR LIFE MUAHAHA~

Really? she is? This explains all the supernatural paintings of Castiel and Dean ;)

I stand corrected, She's awesome.

I'm afraid this is about a fortnight late, but here's some atrocious unrelated-to-Malazan Valentine's Day art! I was inquired about Oden's possible connections to this loveydoveyfest (since he clearly hides behind the present-day Santa). Loke shares with us Jötunheimers many juicy details about the secret lives of the Gods, including this less-known fact that Oden rides on the night of the 14th of February across the heavens of Manhome, two pigeons upon his shoulders, his mighty spear of love aloft, delivering the magic of friendship into the hearts of mortals with his runic incantations.

Sorry I posted ponies in your thread, but I'm not sure if it's any worse than giant erotica.

So this made my day.

The only thing disturbing me about that image is Valentine Odens diaphamous pink shirt and trousers. Perhaps one romanctic-overture too far. ;)

Glad to hear that. :-D
He did have a good Brazilian waxing so as not to terrify the more squeamish ladies, but I agree about the tastelessness of that costume. Blame the stylist Freya, who loves her gossamer silks. Now I wonder why his hat isn't see-through as well!

You forget I am part jötunn and can shapeshift into a voyeuristic raven. The Frost Giant Warren* has an egress two meters to the left of your chimney.

*Like the Toblakai warren, but slipperier. Ice skates recommended for footwear.

Thanks. ;-D

I'm late to the discussion, but Rare Exports... I can't adequately explain the emotional fuzz-fest I experience when watching this movie. It's so delightful and creepy, and I for one am wholly convinced that all those wrinkled old bums were an artistic necessity. To Norway's credit, The Trollhunter is quite special as well. I don't know what our equivalent would be. Let the Right One In, maybe. But trolls and giants are so much more interesting.

Let the Right One In is one of my all-time favourite vampire movies. And the swedish original is so much better than the American remake!

I have the book at home, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

If you like Rare Exports, you should watch these:

Haha, omg the 'no drinking' warning.

I haven't seen the American remake or read the book so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I agree the original is one of the better vampire movies. And the most depressing one, for sure.
