Abyss. The charge of the Shrial Knights was awesome. Who doesn't like Templar clones? Posted Image

Anyone who enjoyed TDTCB but thought it could have used a little more action is in for a pleasant surprise in the Warrior-Prophet. There are a lot of huge battles and lots of individual sword fighting. The book is amazing.

I'd say my favorite character is Achamiam. He has a lot of flaws and that makes him more believable. I also like the fact that he is this massively powerful sorceror yet he has to suffer so much humiliation from people and can't do anything about it.

Except for two things. First, Kellhus himself has no idea why he is journeying to Shimeh, so I am wondering - what happens when he finds out? (Not to mention, what is his purpose?) Second, the Logos is not a 100% accurate system of prediction - Kellhus may have made mistakes to which his Conditioning has left him blind - what happens when those mistakes come back to haunt him? That's why I find his character so interesting...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I was fortunate enough to be sent an unpublished proof of the Warrior-Prophet courtesy of the author. Posted Image

70 pages in right now and it is VERY good so far. Contained some nice info on the events of the First Apocalypse in the first or second chapter. Anyway, I will post more non-spoiler thoughts later.

Yes I love the magic system Abyss. And mages battling in the sky, who wouldn't like that? Posted Image

ah well i actually thought about re-reading the ending while I was reading it only problem was it was so late at nite and i just wanted to get it done with and figured i'd re-read it the next day...and then I kind of forget lol. But I'll do it as soon as I get the novel back from my friend. It was one of those things, where even before you start reading you know you'll have to re-read it to get a better understanding.

Tiste from the DG forum we were spamming again lol

R. Scott Bakker
Prince of Nothing
1. The Darkness that Comes Before
2. The Warrior Prophet
3. The Thousandfold Thought(late 2005 release date)

Im currently reading book 2, so far really good. Bakker also explains a lot of things, which is extremely helpful in analysing the novel further, in terms of character personalities and stuff at the start of book 2. Been busy doing other stuff lately so haven't gon much far, but really good novel. It'll be a good break from SE's writing style too. Its different yet on the same level of complexity and depth. The philosophical aspects are also great, if I was to compare I'd say this is one area that Bakker exceds Erikson in. But that is understandable as Bakker is a Philosopher where as Erikson is not...lol...still check it out I'm sure you'll enjoy it. After all it comes Erikson reccomended

Well I can agree with the raving loon bit, but whos patty lillis the third? Or is that a non too subtle mockery of any faith at all? Posted Image I dunno what they will say if I am reading them, I guess I'll have to find out huh?

I just happened to be reading this forum today and thought that some (if not all) of you might be interested in reading an interview I just conducted with Bakker over at wotmania's Other Fantasy forum. Here's the link: Bakker Interview

There's some interesting comments in there, especially for those who followed the multi-forum debates over China Miéville's statements about Tolkien. Hope you enjoy!

Yeah he is a really nice guy. Sent a bunch of us galleys a few months ago thanking us for spreading the virus around the net. Posted Image He also lives in the same city as me and teaches at the same college I go to so that is pretty neat.

January 2006, probably. Was scheduled for October 2005, but like Erikson's book, this one is also delayed.

So how high would you rate it compared to TDTCB, Erikson's books or Martin's stuff?

The first book of the first book, no less. It was bound to seem at least a little imcomplete.

On a recent trip to Canada I picked up Bakkars first two books mainly from the good word from this forum and I have to say the I agree with Stone Monkeys comments more than other reviews. Kellus and his kin are too powerful and upset the balance of the series. I think this is a shame because large parts of the books are very well written, the philosophical elements are thought provocing and flow into the story better than you would expect. In my view he is well worth a read but not worth importing as they are not that special.
